Summer is quickly melting away and, while some might say that the season for ice cream is ending, I say that there is no reason to put those ice cream scoops into storage until next year. Ice cream is one food that might be good for cooling off, but it is good all year round. In this spirit, I’m hosting a quick little end-of-summer ice cream giveaway for my readers!
The prize is a goodie basket with some ice cream making essentials. It also includes my new favorite Zyliss ice cream scoop, but everything else is a surprise. The only things you’ll have to supply is the actual ice cream because it just doesn’t ship all that well in my experience – not without some fancy ice packs, anyway!
To play, just leave a comment below describing your favorite ice cream. Be specific! I want to know if your favorite is homemade, or a particular brand of ice cream from the market or from a particular store in your city. Gelato and sorbet are fair game, too, if those are at the top of your list. The contest is closing on Sunday, September 19th, so leave your comments before then. Be sure to leave your e-mail address (it won’t be published if you type it into the form) so I can contact a randomly selected winner on Sunday night! Good luck everyone!

September 17, 2010My favorite “ice cream” was a Tirimasu gelato I had at a little shop in Italy near the Piazza Novana. Holy cow! Seriously, they must have used holy cows this gelato was so heavenly. It even had lady fingers that got all mushed together into the cone. I think I ate that at least once a day for the 6 days I was there. Mmmmmm, now I need to go back!

September 17, 2010Lately I love Edy’s Mint Chocolate Chip Brownie Blast…it’s so yummy, mint flavored ice cream with mini chocolate chips, with little pieces of brownie mixed throughout the ice cream. Sinfully delish! I used to love this ice cream at a local place called Alinosis Ice Cream Parlor, they made a Orange-Pineapple ice cream that was AMAZING. I’d like to try and make my own sometime!

September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream HAS to be Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chip. The black raspberry ice cream is rich, creamy, delicious, and super flavorful by itself, but then Graeter’s adds huge chunks of dark chocolate to the mix. The chunks are very rustic and vary in size… you never know what size pieces you’ll find! Also, the chocolate is super rich and melts in your mouth. Definitely the best ice cream I’ve ever had!

September 17, 2010Homemade– my boyfriend and I have been making homemade ice cream for a while. We mix all the ingredients in a clean 1 gallon paint tin, put that inside a larger plastic bucket with rock salt and Ice, put the lid on and take turns shaking. Our favorites so far have been pumpkin made with pumpkin spice and a whole can of pumpkin, and a ginger spice where we replaced the white sugar with brown sugar and added spices and crystalized ginger.

September 17, 2010Nothing beats homemade for me. I once made a rosemary, carrot and ginger granita and serve it in between entree and the main course, it really whets the appetite and I’ve been making it often ever since then. And what do you really need when it comes to making granita? Nothing more than a fork! Love the Zyliss Ice Cream Scoop!!!
Rebeca
September 17, 2010my favorite ice cream is from Fenton’s Creamery – the coffee cookie dream! It’s delicious because of the richness of the coffee ice cream and the huge cookie chunks filled inside….top it off with a freshly made waffle cone – YUM!

September 17, 2010This is like asking to pick a favorite limb. or a favorite child, if I were to have children, which I don’t. so anyway.
My favorite ice cream would have to be Breyer’s Reese’s Ice Cream. It was a tough choice. Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino comes in at a close second. But what I love about Reese’s ice cream is the creamy peanut butter ice cream, and of course the Reese’s chunks make it perfect. I just. love. peanut butter. and ice cream. and this puts them together. <3

September 17, 2010I really love Pumphouse Creamery at 4754 Chicago Ave S in Minneapolis, MN. I usually get their Sea Salt, Caramel and Praline Pecans, but the last time I was there, I got their Local Organic Strawberry, and it was absolutely phenomenal. I’ve never had a strawberry ice cream that tasted as truly of fresh strawberries as that one.
