Summer is quickly melting away and, while some might say that the season for ice cream is ending, I say that there is no reason to put those ice cream scoops into storage until next year. Ice cream is one food that might be good for cooling off, but it is good all year round. In this spirit, I’m hosting a quick little end-of-summer ice cream giveaway for my readers!
The prize is a goodie basket with some ice cream making essentials. It also includes my new favorite Zyliss ice cream scoop, but everything else is a surprise. The only things you’ll have to supply is the actual ice cream because it just doesn’t ship all that well in my experience – not without some fancy ice packs, anyway!
To play, just leave a comment below describing your favorite ice cream. Be specific! I want to know if your favorite is homemade, or a particular brand of ice cream from the market or from a particular store in your city. Gelato and sorbet are fair game, too, if those are at the top of your list. The contest is closing on Sunday, September 19th, so leave your comments before then. Be sure to leave your e-mail address (it won’t be published if you type it into the form) so I can contact a randomly selected winner on Sunday night! Good luck everyone!

Dove used to make a chocolate cheesecake ice cream that was my absolute fave – I haven’t found a new favorite yet!

Pecan anything is my favorite flavor, but praline pecan in particular makes me squee like no other. Mitchell’s Ice Cream in SF is great, and they have many unique flavors not found in typical national brands.

Homemade! Probably David Lebovitz’s Salted Caramel, though with cookie dough or truffles added for interest 🙂

my absolute faaavorite ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s Peanut butter cup. OH. MY. GOD. I haven’t had it in forever, but to this day I can taste the creamy peanut butteryness of the ice cream with all the crunch peanut butter cups floating around, huuuge chunks, practically straight from the wrapper pieces… yum

Aliena VargheseSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite ice cream would be the simple ben and jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie, a whole tub!

It’s so hard to pick which ice cream is my favorite. I think I love them all! But I guess my favorite store bought ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. However, my favorite home made ice cream is a simple kulfi made with cardamom, cream, almonds, raisins, and pistachios. Super easy and super tasty!
Sarah KSeptember 18, 2010
I love mint cookie crunch by Edy’s. It’s cookies and cream, but with mint!
EricaRSeptember 18, 2010
With ice cream being perhaps my favorite food, this is a hard choice. A choice I’m unwilling to make, in fact. But some my better ice creams include a non-dairy carrot cake ice cream by So Delicious, nutella gelato in Italy, and my good ole’ standby Light Moose Tracks by Turkey Hill.
TheresaSeptember 18, 2010
My family’s new favorite ice cream is Blue Bunny’s Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. I’m sorry to say that this is as close to homemade ice cream as my family will ever get 🙂
RoseSeptember 18, 2010
I love Graters Ice Cream, they are local to the Cincinnati/Northern KY area. My absolute favorite of theirs is the black raspberry chocolate chip, but their chocolate chips are more like huge chunks of dark chocolate 🙂
meeyeehereSeptember 18, 2010
I like Baskin Robbins peppermint flavor ice cream!! I also love home made peach ice cream and vanilla with whipped cream chocolate syrup and nuts!
Mary CorbetSeptember 18, 2010
Our “family favorite” is Baskin Robbins pralines & cream – but my personal favorite is my sister’s home-made chocolate! I also like gelato from a little gelato place in Kansas City, but I can’t remember the name of the place!
angelaSeptember 18, 2010
ben & jerry’s cherry garcia is probably at the top of my list. it’s my go-to. but i could probably eat ice cream 3 times a day, so i’m not too fickle. 🙂
AmaliaSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite ice cream is a simple vanilla cone that they sell in my dad’s town, is an artisan ice cream and the texture is out of this world and the vanilla flavor is really strong. Other than that, I love homemade Ice cream and lot of chunks!
Kelley FountainSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite is Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby. Its the pretzel and peanut butter thing. I can no longer find it in the store and may be forced to create my own version.
AshtonSeptember 18, 2010
Cake Batter ice cream with hot fudge on top from Kilwin’s, they have multiple locations in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area!
JenniSeptember 18, 2010
I just bought the ice cream attachment for my KA this summer, and have to say that homemade is FAR superior! I bought it so I didn’t have to worry about the limitations of our ice cream choices with a nut allergy in the family. My absolute fave so far is Chocolate Ice Cream – the David Lebovitz recipe. Soooo decadent and delicious!!
wendrynSeptember 18, 2010
A friend just introduced me to homemade lemon sorbet, and it was amazingly good. It is my current favorite ice cream. The last one was Haagen Dazs Five Passion Fruit. Mmmm.
AlisonSeptember 18, 2010
My husband is slightly obsessed with making homemade ice cream and he’s pretty much perfected his current recipe. He uses honey as a sweetener and even just the plain vanilla is pretty much awesome.
Marilyn CooperSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite is BlueBell’s Tin Roof. I love the chocolate covered peanuts and Blue Bell is the best ice cream in Texas!
ShirleySeptember 18, 2010
I love Butter Pecan and Blue Bunny makes a good one.
It is rich and creamy and has lots of my favorite nuts, pecans.

I like home made ice cream. Right now blackberry is my favorite, but fall apples and peaches are out and they will make a wonderful ice cream also. Try making your own peach pie ice cream. Yummy.
MariSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite ice cream was a batch I made for myself following David Lebovitz’s Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream recipe from his website.
Can’t wait to make it again for upcoming holiday parties.
KarenSeptember 18, 2010
Graeter’s in Cincinnati. Raspberry chip and peach are the best!
Pooh!September 18, 2010
The Indian saffron kulfi is my favorite. I make my own and they are so yum.
PattykSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite is a real vanilla bean ice cream. Nothing beats that flavor. I don’t have a favorite place to buy it near where I live.
Valerie M.September 18, 2010
I once had Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Chunk Fudge which was AWESOME, but my favorite place to but ice cream is Stawarts, a local chain-store specializing in dairy products, only found in northern NY and parts of VT. Their Mint Cookie Crumble is to die for; crushed chocolate wafer cookies and fudge swirled through smooth mint icecream! None of the hard chunks of chocolate in most mint chip icecreams have.
ChutzpahSeptember 18, 2010
homemade peach ice cream. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
ErinSeptember 18, 2010
Ben and Jerry’s Marsha Marsha Marshmallow!!! It’s a smore in ice cream form! The best ice cream EVER!!! The problem is that I can’t find it anymore… 🙁
CatherineSeptember 18, 2010
My most recent favourite is Chapman’s French Vanilla. The Chapman’s factory is located about an hour and a half from where I live, so it’s also great to support local business!
ana vazquezSeptember 18, 2010

My favorite ice cream is homemade creme brulee ice cream. I’ve never had anything else like it! Probably because of the massive amounts of heavy cream and egg yolks 😉
Sarah SSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite ice cream is my homemade vanilla ice cream with big chucks of oreo! Makes me want some right now!
ShelleySeptember 18, 2010

In Oslo we have a Italian coffee house that sells home-made ice cream. Their nutty pistachio ice cream is to die for! I must say I always wanted to try to make something like it, but I just never got to it.. maybe winning this giveaway would give me the kick I need to get started 🙂
CaleySeptember 18, 2010
My all-time favorite is butter pecan ice cream, the Friendly’s version. But I can never find that anymore, so I usually go for Ben & Jerry’s coffee Heath bar. Mmmm.
Ellen kimSeptember 18, 2010
I absolutely love Breyer’s Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry ice cream!! Three flavors in one. Enough said!

I love my grandmother’s lemon ice cream she makes from scratch. It’s thin but custardy and so yummy. I think the nostalgia of it is the best cause we only get it at family reunions once or twice a year.
MaySeptember 18, 2010
Homemade almond joy ice cream….words cannot describe the happiness that takes place in my mouth with each bite!
KoriSeptember 18, 2010
I love almost every ice cream. Ice cream is just. . .amazing.
LexSeptember 18, 2010
It is a toss up between Graeter’s Ice Cream and Jeni’s Ice Cream. Both local here in Columbus, OH. Jeni’s has some very unique flavors that you can’t find anywhere else, my favorite being Goat Cheese with Cherries. Graeter’s has amazing chocolate chunks in their ice cream making Coconut Chip a favorite.
KimberlySeptember 18, 2010
Oh my goodness!! Ice cream Ice Cream Ice Cream. I love it all, but my most favorite is…..Chubby Hubby. I delicious blend of sweet vanilla ice cream with swirls of chocolate thoughout it, and pretzels filled with peanut butter scattered thoughout it. It is a wonderful combination of sweet and salty. Yum yum.
sarahSeptember 18, 2010
My favorite ice cream is homemade vanilla ice cream that we make when we go to my husband’s family’s lake house. It’s made with one of the old fashioned mixers that need salt and ice and take 1-2 hours to chill the ice cream. I only eat the ice cream the day it’s made because once it’s been in the freezer the consistency totally changes and it’s no longer creamy but almost icey and clumpy. Sometimes we will add fresh chocolate chips and strawberries but they really aren’t needed as just plain vanilla is so yummy!
SandraSeptember 18, 2010
I love Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough from Bruster’s which is a regional place here in Chattanooga, TN. They make it fresh every day. Super Yum!
kayduhSeptember 18, 2010
I would have to say either cinnamon or salted caramel ice cream are my favorites! I haven’t tried to make cinnamon at home, but fall seems like the right season.
