Summer is quickly melting away and, while some might say that the season for ice cream is ending, I say that there is no reason to put those ice cream scoops into storage until next year. Ice cream is one food that might be good for cooling off, but it is good all year round. In this spirit, I’m hosting a quick little end-of-summer ice cream giveaway for my readers!
The prize is a goodie basket with some ice cream making essentials. It also includes my new favorite Zyliss ice cream scoop, but everything else is a surprise. The only things you’ll have to supply is the actual ice cream because it just doesn’t ship all that well in my experience – not without some fancy ice packs, anyway!
To play, just leave a comment below describing your favorite ice cream. Be specific! I want to know if your favorite is homemade, or a particular brand of ice cream from the market or from a particular store in your city. Gelato and sorbet are fair game, too, if those are at the top of your list. The contest is closing on Sunday, September 19th, so leave your comments before then. Be sure to leave your e-mail address (it won’t be published if you type it into the form) so I can contact a randomly selected winner on Sunday night! Good luck everyone!

September 17, 2010If I have the time, or about 10 people to help me out, it’s myfamily’s homemade vanilla. It’s the best!
If not, then it’s Dreyer’s Cookies and Cream. What can I say, it reminds me of childhood!
Katie
September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream by far is Dreyer’s Slow Churned Mint Chocolate. It’s rich and intense and the mintiness in the ice cream adds to the chilling sensation that’s always fresh. The bittersweet chocolate flakes adds a nice texture and is wonderful to melt in your mouth after you’ve swallowed the mint ice cream. My heart will forever belong to that flavor!

September 17, 2010Ben and Jerry’s just-about-anything. Kitchen Sink is awesome, but I think currently Karamel Sutra is tops. What I really miss is there Bovinity Divinity, with cute little chocolate cows in it.
Christine
September 17, 2010Maple walnut, hands down. My favorite place to get it is this place near my cottage which is only water access. I would have to paddle my kayak for about an hour but the ice cream was always worth.
Cindy
September 17, 2010Moosetracks by the Velvet ice Cream company in Ohio. Can’t get it in Arizona, of course. To me it seems richer than Moosetracks by other brands.

September 17, 2010I love Graeter’s black raspberry chip – it’s a local brand here in Cincinnati that practically has a cult following. They are trying to expand nationwide, though, so you may be able to have some soon!

September 17, 2010Gadzooks! by Bassett’s Ice Cream in Philadelphia. Based on a local radio morning show Preston & Steve on 93.3 WMMR. It’s chocolate ice cream with peanut butter brownies, chocolate chunks and caramel swirl! YUM!!
Jodi
September 17, 2010Paciugo, the new gelato shop in my neighborhood, makes the most amazing Mediterranean Sea Salt Gelato! It has a wonderful salty richness, and I had no idea that gelato could taste so caramely without having any ribbons of gooey caramel running through it. Amazing!

September 17, 2010Blue Bell’s Banana Pudding!!

September 17, 2010I’m partial to homemade ice-cream or really rich, good gelato or store bought. Probably my favorite ice cream is the vanilla buttermilk (from Smitten Kitchen): it has an incredible flavor, whether you make it with eight yolks or four. Plus, i made a lemon variation my boyfriend can’t stop raving about.
Jessica
September 17, 2010Black Raspberry – it’s hard to find in most circumstances, and finding it in gelato-form is nearly impossible, but I keep hoping. When I was a kid, a small stand in a nearby shopping mall (Capital City Mall in Pennsylvania) sold it, and theirs has been the gold standard for me ever since.
Good vanilla frozen custard is easier to find – Neilssen’s in Vienna VA! – but I keep thinking I should try to make it at home.

September 17, 2010I love mint chocolate chip π Mint + chocolat

September 17, 2010I recently discovered that you need an actual machine to make ice cream. Now my favourite flavour is Dorie Greenspan’s burnt caramel.

September 17, 2010My favorite is the plain vanilla made at a place called Bellvale Creamery. Its in Warwick NY, and its on a farm. They make their own ice cream, so its always fresh.
Anne
September 17, 2010Well, I have to admit that my favorite is HΓΒ€agen-Dazs Strawberry. It really is. Homemade is great, of course – but for the ease, and availability, H-D is it for me π Total comfort!
Lindsey
September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream is Dave and Andy’s pumpkin in Oakland, Pittsburgh, PA. It has the perfect amount of creaminess and spice together. It tastes heavenly in their waffle cones that are both crunchy and cakey at the same time.
Shonna
September 17, 2010I LOVE homemade Cookie “No-Dough” Dough Ice Cream. The actual ice cream tastes like cookie dough… and… because cookie dough is my weakness, I also throw in some actual cookie dough. It’s AMAZING π

September 17, 2010What a fun giveaway! I completely agree that ice cream is a treat to enjoy year-round (I just posted a recipe for ice cream full of autumn spices) and I keep my ice cream freezer bowl at the ready.
I love making my own ice cream and frozen yogurt, and one of my favorite recipes was one for purple cow fro yo: raspberry & blackberry frozen yogurt with both dark and white chocolate. Mmmmmm.
Carrie
September 17, 2010As a kid I always love the Chocolate with Peanut Butter Swirl from Baskin Robbins. Now I am much less selective and will take whatever is given to me!

September 17, 2010I’m a vanilla girl. Love French Vanilla – only the most decadent stuff too. The bargain stuff just mutilates the vanilla flavor.
Astrid
September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream is a homemade dark chocolate ice cream with chocolate chip cookie dough in it. I made it with a custard base, and it was so decadent and incredible. This ice cream needs to be saved for special occasions, because I never want to get bored of it!
Rose
September 17, 2010Forgot to say my favorite is Ben and Jerry’s even though my husband and kids always give me grief because I don’t want those mixed up flavors.

September 17, 2010My local ice cream shop, Larry’s in Washington, D.C., makes a aptly named flavor they call Paradise — raspberry ice cream with a gooey fudge swirl through it. Absolutely delicious.

September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream is Roxbury Road from Jeni’s in Columbus…chocolate ice cream with homemade marshmallows and smoked marcona almonds. Heaven!

September 17, 2010My all time favorite is pistachio dark chocolate ice cream. I would love to make my own ice cream one day. The mix between sweet, bitter, and salty is a perfect combination! Ok, now I want some..

September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream is any ice cream that is within two inches of my face, ready to be consumed.
I don’t discriminate.
BecKAY
September 17, 2010Before the whole “create your own” ice cream fad, my favorite ice cream spot was Baskin Robbins. Their Mint Chocolate Chip is the best (I love how the chocolate is shaved and not in chip or chunk form). But my favorite seasonal flavors are Quarterback Crunch (September’s flavor of the month) and Winter White Chocolate. Sooooooo good.
Fallon
September 17, 2010My favorite subject… My favorite ice cream has to be from Cold Stone. I had a combination of french vanilla ice cream that was so creamy mixed with cookie dough, chocolate and caramel sauce. It was amazing. Then I put it in a waffle bowl that was dipped in chocolate and nuts. It was so worth it!

September 17, 2010It is off the market as my grandfather made Dragon Ice Cream. He would go hunt them all morning and then make. The ice cream for my birthday. It was a beautiful color and oddly enough the dragons tasted like mint.
