Summer is quickly melting away and, while some might say that the season for ice cream is ending, I say that there is no reason to put those ice cream scoops into storage until next year. Ice cream is one food that might be good for cooling off, but it is good all year round. In this spirit, I’m hosting a quick little end-of-summer ice cream giveaway for my readers!
The prize is a goodie basket with some ice cream making essentials. It also includes my new favorite Zyliss ice cream scoop, but everything else is a surprise. The only things you’ll have to supply is the actual ice cream because it just doesn’t ship all that well in my experience – not without some fancy ice packs, anyway!
To play, just leave a comment below describing your favorite ice cream. Be specific! I want to know if your favorite is homemade, or a particular brand of ice cream from the market or from a particular store in your city. Gelato and sorbet are fair game, too, if those are at the top of your list. The contest is closing on Sunday, September 19th, so leave your comments before then. Be sure to leave your e-mail address (it won’t be published if you type it into the form) so I can contact a randomly selected winner on Sunday night! Good luck everyone!

September 17, 2010French Vanilla ice cream from Longacre’s Dairy near my house. It’s so thick and gooey you can practically chew it. I’ve never had homemade ice cream that wasn’t full of ice crystals, not my speed.

September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream I ever made was probably lemon, made with coconut milk instead of cream and a splash of bourbon to keep it soft in the freezer. Creamy, but light and refreshing!
Jacqueline
September 17, 2010Mint Moosetracks. I discovered this in lieu of mint choc chip when I was on vacay with my parents and it changed my life. Mmm, fudge swirls and mint chocolate cups…so much better than plain old chocolate chips!

September 17, 2010Homemade Nutella ice cream is the best! And it only has 2 ingredients – Nutella and evaporated milk!
Sarah
September 17, 2010Yum, ice cream!
I’m loving the return of fall, so right now I’d have to say that my favorite flavor is maple. Mmm, with candied pecans.
However, the sole reason I bought my ice cream maker was to make a savory avocado ice cream to plop in bowls of icy shrimp gazpacho. It’s the best summer dinner ever, I swear.
Thanks for doing these amazing giveaways…hopefully, this is my lucky day! 🙂

September 17, 2010The best (and my favorite) ice cream was a simple, homemade vanilla ice cream. Why I love it? 1- the first homemade ice cream I have ever tasted, 2- made by my wonderful roommate from college, 3- smooth, creamy, just the right amount pure vanilla extract. A classic, I know – but it totally rocked my ice cream world.

September 17, 2010I love homemade ice cream, but don’t have it often. I love, love, love hazelnut gelato! I am also quite partial to Alden’s blackberry ice cream. (Alden’s makes fantastic ice cream!)

September 17, 2010There’s an ice cream chain in my area called Maggie Moos. They make an ice cream called Cinnamoo, which is cinnamon ice cream. It is SO GOOD, and is even better with caramel and chocolate sauces. I am totally obsessed with it.

September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream is homemade vanilla with just a hint of cinnamon and ginger. Instead of sugar I use honey, and just to be really decadent, I use a mix of half-n-half and heavy cream, instead of milk. There are never any leftovers.
Aimee
September 17, 2010I love all ice cream but my favorite would have to be homemade chocolate!
Lana
September 17, 2010Funny to be thinking about icecream right now as my husband and I are trying to limit our icecream intake. We used to eat a bowl nearly every evening. I like anything chocolate with chunks of chocolate. Yah, I’d say icecream has to have chocolate in it!

September 17, 2010My favorite Ice cream is pistachio. There is something about the sweet and the salty and the beautiful green color!

September 17, 2010Giveaways certain draw comments! 🙂 My favorite ice cream is a local ice cream sandwich (though I think they are sold in some other states). I like the quality control and small batch mentality of the company as well as the amazing flavors. My favorite one is the honey-lavender ice cream sandwiched in a lemon cookie. I bought some culinary lavender to try making it myself but I haven’t done that yet–some day. Ruby’s is so good it’s hard to imagine I could make it as great. The tartness of the lemon cookie and slight crunch is a wonderful companion to the sweet cold ice cream with a hint of lavender and a floral sweetness of honey. Truly inspired.

September 17, 2010Graeters Raspberry Chocolate Chip! The chips are more like chocolate bars and they’re made from some amazing semi-sweet chocolate. Ah….

September 17, 2010I’m lucky to live in Columbus, OH which is the home (or close to home) of some of the country’s best ice cream. We’ve got Jeni’s, Denise’s, Johnson’s, and Handel’s but my top would have to be Graeter’s and their Black Raspberry Chip. So so so very good.
Melissa
September 17, 2010Tough call, but it would have to be the Toasted Coconut ice cream we’ve made. Thanks for the chance to win!

September 17, 2010My favorite ice cream would have to be Haupia-flavored (Haupia is a coconut dessert in Hawaii). Before I went to college, I would use it to make blueberry coconut milkshakes.
Courtney
September 17, 2010I discovered a new favorite ice cream concoction this summer while I was working at a guest ranch in Colorado. They had a free ice cream bar that was open twice a day – dangerous! They had some awesome flavors, but my favorite ended up being something very simple, yet delicious: chocolate ice cream combined with vanilla soft serve! Somehow the combination of textures made for a really yummy treat!

September 17, 2010I’ve recently discovered Kroger’s Private Selection Choc Chip Cookie Dough. Not normally a fan of any cookie dough flavor but this is divine! It’s got lots of grated chocolate that’s blended thoroughly into the ice cream and tons of cookie dough pieces!

September 17, 2010My husband and I were just talking about this yesterday! I’m a sucker for Ben and Jerry’s strawberry cheesecake, but when it comes right down to it, you can’t beat plain old Bluebell Homemade Vanilla. Yum!
