Ice Cream Gift Pack Giveaway!

Vanilla Sour Cream Ice Cream
Summer is quickly melting away and, while some might say that the season for ice cream is ending, I say that there is no reason to put those ice cream scoops into storage until next year. Ice cream is one food that might be good for cooling off, but it is good all year round. In this spirit, I’m hosting a quick little end-of-summer ice cream giveaway for my readers!

The prize is a goodie basket with some ice cream making essentials. It also includes my new favorite Zyliss ice cream scoop, but everything else is a surprise. The only things you’ll have to supply is the actual ice cream because it just doesn’t ship all that well in my experience – not without some fancy ice packs, anyway!

To play, just leave a comment below describing your favorite ice cream. Be specific! I want to know if your favorite is homemade, or a particular brand of ice cream from the market or from a particular store in your city. Gelato and sorbet are fair game, too, if those are at the top of your list. The contest is closing on Sunday, September 19th, so leave your comments before then. Be sure to leave your e-mail address (it won’t be published if you type it into the form) so I can contact a randomly selected winner on Sunday night! Good luck everyone!

Since I was a wee tyke, my favorite flavor was Mint Chocolate Chip, but since the arrival of Bruster’s Ice Cream in town roughly three years ago I have fallen in love with Key Lime Pie ice cream. I’d never have thought fruit would win over chocolate but it’s a lucious, tangy ice cream with rich swirls of buttery graham cracker “crust.” SO satisfying on a hot day!

My favorite is Moose Tracks from Schoep’s Ice Cream πŸ™‚ It’s vanilla with chocolate fudge striped through it, with chunks of chocolate candies. Sooo good! Schoep’s is a local ice cream company here in Madison, WI and they sure know their dairy πŸ˜€

My very favorite is homemade peach ice cream, made the way my dad always made it. The VERY best. Though I recently found a homemade pistachio that is a close second. Yum!

I got an ice cream maker this summer and my favorite out of it was Strawberry Buttermilk Gelato (but I’m still experimenting with all flavors!).

    This is our favorite:

I’ve also modified it to make vanilla by using a couple of tablespoons of vanilla bean paste instead of the lemon flavorings.

Oh it has to be this chocolate raspberry ice cream from a local soda shop… it’s been in our town forever. I can’t remember the cute name they had for it, but it was a raspberry base ice cream with little chocolate raspberry cups in it (Like peanut butter cups?) and a chocolate swirl I think! SOOOO good!

My favorite ice cream was one that I’ve only had once- in an ice cream shop called Las Lapas in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. It was pumpkin flavored, with big, dark chocolate stars that were made right there, with local caocao.

I’ve unfortunately never had the privilege of tasting any homemade ice cream, but of what multitude of store- and shop-bought I’ve enjoyed…

My favorite ice cream will always have chunks and stuff in it–I’m not a fan of plain flavors at all. Currently I’m nursing a resurgence of desire for chocolate-and-nut flavors, such as Turkey Hill’s Coconut Almond Fudge!

My favorite used to be mint chocolate chip, until I discovered I could make just mint (without chocolate) at home! Previously I could only find peppermint, which is a little different, at stores and ice cream shops; I like the homemade mint better.

My favorite ice cream is homemade at a nearby farm where they scoop and serve their flavors out of a caboose and you get to eat the ice cream while visiting with cows, goats, and bunnies. It’s called Toots.

Definitely the bowl I had at Berthillon in Paris – pear sorbet and chocolate ice cream (they don’t go – but I couldn’t pass either up). It was a revelation! Strong flavors, perfectly cold and smooth. If only it weren’t an ocean away!

I wish I knew the name of the little roadside shop in Cleveland that we tried last summer. They had an amazing honey ice cream with a honey caramel ribbon… it was like taking a bite of summer sunshine.

My boyfriend loved the place because they had a banana split that came in a pound cake pan… and that was the small size.

I don’t discriminate, I eat ice cream year round! For store bought I love Hagan Daz Caramel Cone.

Homemade is a tie between Salted Butter Carmel and the ice cream birthday cake I made for my husband last year – bottom layer dark chocolate gelato, chocolate crunchies in the middle, vanilla on top covered in homemade fudge sauce and topped with tiny Trader Joes chocolate chip cookies!

My favorite brand is Blue Bell, so good. Their Triple Chocolate is amazing. I love homemade though, I would pick that everytime given the choice. My mom makes this amazing butter pecan. It is one of the few things that I like pecans in.

I just came back from a trip to Korea, and it was amazing! I visited the green tea fields of Boseong and made the right choice of tasting their special green tea ice cream! Well, tasting and devouring are pretty much the same thing, right? I usually don’t like green tea, but now I crave green tea ice cream all the time…. not that it’s a bad thing.

If it is homemade in my kitchen, hands down my rum raisin takes the cake. However, the best ice cream that I ever had(but it has been awhile) was Babcock Hall ice cream in Madison, Wisconsin. For store bought, I go for Turkey Hill vanilla bean or Edy’s brand cookies and cream.

My standby is Breyers Chocolate – after a long day at school, I look forward to a bowl. My cat does, too. He waits right by me as I eat waiting (mostly patiently…) for me to finish and set the bowl down for him πŸ™‚ If it’s a special occasion, Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey is my pick!!
