Ice Cream Gift Pack Giveaway!

Vanilla Sour Cream Ice Cream
Summer is quickly melting away and, while some might say that the season for ice cream is ending, I say that there is no reason to put those ice cream scoops into storage until next year. Ice cream is one food that might be good for cooling off, but it is good all year round. In this spirit, I’m hosting a quick little end-of-summer ice cream giveaway for my readers!

The prize is a goodie basket with some ice cream making essentials. It also includes my new favorite Zyliss ice cream scoop, but everything else is a surprise. The only things you’ll have to supply is the actual ice cream because it just doesn’t ship all that well in my experience – not without some fancy ice packs, anyway!

To play, just leave a comment below describing your favorite ice cream. Be specific! I want to know if your favorite is homemade, or a particular brand of ice cream from the market or from a particular store in your city. Gelato and sorbet are fair game, too, if those are at the top of your list. The contest is closing on Sunday, September 19th, so leave your comments before then. Be sure to leave your e-mail address (it won’t be published if you type it into the form) so I can contact a randomly selected winner on Sunday night! Good luck everyone!

Honestly, for me there’s nothing better than a really, really good vanilla. It doesn’t need anything else.

There’s a family owned dairy in Idaho Falls, Idaho that makes their own ice cream. Reed’s Dairy is the hottest ice cream shop in the area. Their homemade waffle cones are amazing plus you can get them plain, dipped in chocolate, or dipped in chocolate and rolled in nuts. The cones are huge and the ice cream will always start dripping down your arm before you can finish eating it. For an extra treat you can try their “potato ice cream” yes… it’s made with potatoes! It comes in several different flavors and is made from locally grown Idaho russet potatoes. My favorite flavor is German Chocolate ice cream… creamy chocolate ice cream with pecans, coconut and a ribbon of caramel running throughout. It’s to die for!!! 😉

There is a gift shop/ice cream buffet at Weirs Beach in New Hampshire. They have tons of flavors and then toppings to make your own sundae. I love their maple ice cream. You don’t see that too much in the Midwest, so it’s a special treat!

There’s a place in my town that has the absolute best ice cream ever. It’s Trickling Springs Creamery. All of their flavors are delicious but Coconut Chip Almond and Chocolate Peanut Butter are my favorites…well, until they start whipping out the Pumpkin!

My all time favourite ice cream is a plain yogurt flavoured ice cream you can get in most homemade ice cream shops in Germany and France. It is so simple and refreshing that I sometimes want to hop on a plane to Lyon or Berlin just to get some.

Tillamook is one of the best brands I can get in my rural community. I most often buy vanilla because I love putting homemade hot fudge sauce on my ice cream.

Well, my very favorite is Bahama Buck’s Bahama Rama Mama, which is vanilla ice cream (Breyer’s, I think?) topped with shaved ice and “tropical creme.” I usually go with Tutti Frutti shaved ice.

But for straight ice cream, I love Blue Bell vanilla.

My favorite is homemade vanilla. When my cousins and I were young we made it the old fashioned way with rock salt – the best ice cream ever. Now homemade is a rare treat but I’ll take Strafford Organic Creamery (local) vanilla as a substitute!

Okay I haven’t tried this yet but have been completely obsessed with it ever since I read about it on the blog cafe fernando. He calls it homemade cereal milk ice cream. He caramelizes cornflakes, adds milk and lets it sit for an hour, strains it and makes ice cream out of the the strained milk. Hello!!! Am I the only one who thinks this is the best sounding this EVER???

I currently live in the US but I grew up in Canada. We have the Loblaws grocery chain with the PC (presidents choice) brand of products. My all time favorite ice cream was available at christmas – chocolate crackle peppermint. But all year round it was Heavenly Hash, it must have been a Breyer’s brand. But of course, it’s not sold where I live now.

My favorite is Orange Custard Chocolate Chip from the Babcock Hall Dairy store on UW-Madison’s campus. Just thinking about it makes me crave it! The building is named after Stephen Babcock, who discovered how to accurately measure the fat content in milk.

My favorite is a homemade custard style vanilla bean ice cream. I swear, it taste just like pastry cream. I wouldn’t mind if it were on top of a brownie with some chocolate sauce too. I mean, it couldn’t hurt, right?

My favorite ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s Half Baked. But, when I don’t feel like eating a pint of ice cream (’cause once I start, I can’t stop), I opt for some pistachio gelato from Terra Mia, an italian restaurant where I live.

I just love the fun combinations of sweet with sour. I am a vanilla girl when it comes to the ice cream itself… homestyle ice milk vanilla. But, to make traditional more fun I throw in my two favorite toppings – pineapple and coconut. So refreshing… and definately not plain!

I tend to be a plain vanilla bean girl (usually Bluebell) when it comes to ice cream, but I fell in love with Cherry Garcia the summer of 2000 when I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. Couldn’t wait to get into town and wolf down a pint!

Homemade ice cream has been a revelation for me. The best I’ve made was a chocolate custard base with almond rather than vanilla extract, then add super fudgy brownie pieces in the last few minutes of churning. Spectacular!

I would have to say mint oreo from a place called Sweet Dreams in Florida. They make it all in the store so fresh and delicious. Still trying to perfect my own homemade version.

Homemade is always best! But as far as brands go, Hudsonville’s Triple Peanut Butter Cup is YUMMY! Description: “Peanut butter cups and peanut butter sauce swirled into peanut butter ice cream.” Does life get any better??
I also love a ice cream with chocolate and fresh cherries – delicious!!

My favorite ice cream was one that I ate in Brazil. It was called Brigadeiro, after the candy. It was a dark chocolate ice cream with those little chocolate jimmies mixed in. I thought it was absolutely perfect, especially when paired with a scoop of toasted coconut.

There’s a place in LA that serves the BEST peanut butter ice cream. It’s a little persian ice cream shop that has rich peanut butter ice cream with swirls of peanut butter and chunks of chocolate peanut butter cups. Yummers!

Yum!!! I love ice cream all year long. I remember when i was younger and we would go to my grandparents house and they would take us to the store and let us pick out a treat I would always pick Medow Gold Maple Nut. Just thinking about it brings back so many memories. I think I need to make a store run!!

Just about any homemade ice cream! After you’ve had some, it’s almost impossible to appreciate those from the supermarket…now I’m really into coconut ice cream, cause it was the first I’ve ever made and it’s in my freezer right now! I’m having a reeeally hard time trying not to eat it all in these hot days!

The very ice cream I’ve ever had, and believe me, I’ve sampled my and my neighborhood’s fair share, was in Barcelona this spring. It wasn’t gellato, but it was slightly different from ice cream. It was the creamiest, smoothest I’ve ever eaten, with a caramel base, swirls of fudge and carmel, with hazelnuts. I’d fly back just for it. : )

Peanut butter and chocolate – no doubt. I was once at a local creamery in Chicago and had really great peanut butter and chocolate ice cream. There were thin strips of salty peanut butter running through the scoop – it was fantastic!
