Jif Peanut Butter & Honey, reviewed

Jif Peanut Butter & Honey
I have always been a big peanut butter fan, so I like to take a chance on some of the more unusual peanut butters I’ve come across over the years, like PB Loco’s peanut butters. Jif’s [new to me] Peanut Butter & Honey peanut butter wasn’t quite as “out there” as some of PB Loco’s offerings, but seemed like it would definitely be worth a taste for a peanut butter fan – particularly since I also like peanut butter and honey sandwiches.

This peanut butter seems to start out with the same base as Jif’s creamy peanut butter, but it has real honey added to it. This makes it a little bit sweeter than your average peanut butter (although it still has a nice salty, nutty flavor). It also has a distinctly floral aftertaste that is a lot like that of clover honey, which is a really nice touch to the peanut butter and a good overall flavor contrast. One thing to note about this peanut butter, however, is that it has a much drier texture than plain peanut butter. I attribute this to the fact that honey is hygroscopic, meaning that it attracts moisture, and I think it might have actually sucked a little moisture out of the peanut butter!  I appreciate the fact that it has a very natural texture and feel to it, although it might have been nice to find a big streak of pure honey running through the jar, too!

I baked some peanut butter cookies with this peanut butter and, in spite of the fact that it was a little bit dry, it baked up well and gave a slight honey aftertaste to the cookies, which was nice. Warmed up slightly, it was excellent spread on a just-ripe banana. Still, it won’t replace regular peanut butter entirely for me, but it’s a nice change of pace and one that I don’t have to special order (unlike the PB Loco) if I’m in the mood.

Haven’t tried the Jif with Honey, but do you know of anywhere to get PB Loco peanut butters since they went out of business? I miss them so much it hurts!

If you can find it, the corresponding Skippy product has a much looser, more spreadable texture.

am I crazy, or could you just peanut butter your bread and drizzle honey on top? Peanut Butter and Co. has many great flavor ideas, like cinnamon raisin and spicy hot, but it seems like you could just DIY to get the precise combo proportion you like…

We love Peter Pan’s version of this, but not all stores carry it. I’ve tried the JIF kind as a substitute, but I found it dry, like you said. If you are able to find Peter Pan Honey Roasted, try it, it’s not near as dry. I MUCH prefer it!

i bought some a few months back as well mainly because i wanted to try something different & because it was Jiff. like most others have already said, i found it very dry, stiff, & hard to spread.

i just assumed all honey PB’s must be like this, but after some of the reader comments i might just try other brands instead..
