Irish coffee is one of the most popular coffee cocktails that there is. The drink was invented nearly 80 years ago, by an Irish chef who combined whiskey and coffee for a drink that would really take the chill off in cold, damp Irish winters. The drink was such a hit that news of it traveled back to the US, where several bartenders tried to recreate it for their patrons. Fortunately, the drink is easy to make. You can learn a little bit more about the history of the drink and get a recipe for it over on my post on the Craftsy blog (it’s free!!): How to Make Classic Irish Coffee.
The classic recipe is so straightforward that it is a great base for other flavors. They may not be traditional, but my Maple Irish Coffee and Chocolate Irish coffee may even be more delicious than the original. Topped with homemade flavored whipped creams, these two variations are slightly sweeter than classic Irish coffee, but both still have a generous pour of Irish whiskey that will warm you up on a cold night.
