- You all probably know that I am a fan of Oreos. Not only do I enjoy trying the limited edition flavors, but I like using them in a variety of other desserts, as well. The Blonde Buckeye made a batch of Birthday Cake Golden Oreo Macarons that feature one of the most creative uses for Oreos that I’ve seen in a while. The Oreo vanilla wafers – the cookie without the filling – are ground up and added to sugar and almond meal to form the batter for the macaron shells. Once baked, the shells have the flavor of a vanilla cookie! They’re sandwiched with vanilla cream and topped with colorful sprinkles. Definitely an upgrade on your average Oreo!
- When you walk into a donut shop, you’ll see all kinds in the case, from apple fritters to maple bars. You don’t have to go to the donut shop if you like simple, old fashioned donuts because Just So Tasty has a recipe for Old Fashioned Cake Donuts that you can make at home. These donuts are made with a simple buttermilk dough that is flavored with vanilla and nutmeg. The soft dough is easy to roll out and cut into donut shapes – you’ll need a donut cutter for best results – before frying. Serve the donuts while they’re still warm, preferably with a mug of coffee or a glass of milk.
- If plain donuts aren’t your thing, consider trying out For the Love of Lasagna‘s Blackberry-Thyme Jam and Whipped Goat Cheese Filled Donuts, which you won’t find in any donut shop. round donuts are deep fried and rolled in sugar to give them a crisp, sweet exterior. After they cool, homemade blackberry-thyme jam and creamy whipped goat cheese are piped into the center. It’s an unusual combination, but it really works. Serve these for brunch or for dessert.
- There are some occasions that require a towering layer cake, like birthdays and anniversaries. If you feel a chocolate craving coming on, then the Cosmic Brownie Cake from The Ruby Kitchen is the thing to bake. This rich layer cake has four layers of rich chocolate cake held together with a dark chocolate ganache. Rainbow sprinkles give the cake a fun finishing touch, adding a pop of color to each piece that is sure to put a smile on the face of everyone who sees it. Though the cake is tall, each layer is baked in a 6-inch pan, so this cake is a good choice for everyday occasions!
- This Orange Chai Tea Latte from Brewed Daily offers a delicious way to start your morning. The drink is made by brewing up some strong chai tea with a little bit of fresh orange zest. Orange zest has so much natural oil that it quickly infuses a wonderfully aromatic orange flavor into the tea. The orange is strained out and the tea is sweetened with vanilla syrup before being topped with steamed milk. If you don’t have a way to steam milk at home, you can froth it up easily by beating it vigorously with a whisk and get a similar effect!
