Pumpkin Spice Oreos, reviewed

Pumpkin Spice Oreos, reviewed

When September rolls around – or even before the “official” start of fall – we start to see signs of the changing seasons. These signs include leaves changing color, crisper mornings and a variety of pumpkin spice goodies in stores and on store shelves. There are more pumpkin spice treats than you could shake a stick at to choose from, but one of my first for this season were the Pumpkin Spice Oreos, as I always enjoy trying out new, seasonal sandwich cookies.

These limited edition cookies consist of vanilla wafers with a pumpkin spice cream filling. The filling is a dark orange color – a color that includes both artificial and natural (paprika) colors – that definitely evokes the color of pumpkins, though it is flavored with spices like cinnamon and cloves and not with actual pumpkin. The heavily spiced filling is balanced nicely by the vanilla wafers, giving the whole sandwich a good balance of sweet and spice. Having tried a lot of pumpkin spice products over the past couple of years, I would say that these are above average and very tasty if you’re a pumpkin spice fan to begin with. The cookies work well from start to finish and aren’t so strongly flavored that you can only eat one at a time. I see these as making a very delicious seasonal variation on Cookies n’ Cream ice cream in my future!!
