The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook giveaway!

The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook
I’ve been enjoying my copy of The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook, the newest cookbook from Chris Kimball and the rest of the team at America’s Test Kitchen. The huge book has more than 2000 recipes and was put out to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Cook’s Illustrated magazine. To read a full review of the book, check out this post. To do my own part in the celebration, I’m giving away a copy of the book to one lucky reader! .

To enter the contest, leave a comment below with your favorite Cook’s Illustrated recipe. Their exhaustively tested recipes always turn out a good product and almost everyone has at least one favorite that they turn to again and again. If you haven’t made any of their recipes before, just leave a comment with the recipe that you want to make most (since just about everything you could think of, with variations, is in here). The contest ends Friday, October 14th at midnight and the winner will be randomly selected from the entries. Don’t forget to fill in your e-mail on the comment form (it will not be public), as that is how I will contact the winner, and good luck!

Update: This contest is now closed. Congrats to Robert on winning the book and a huge thanks to everyone for participating and sharing your favorite recipes!

Key Lime Bars. My boss brought them to a company function one time. I’m not a sweets person, but they were awesome and I could have eaten them all. The recipe came from Cooks Illustrated!

I have a stack of old Cooks Illustrateds that I got from my grandmother. I haven’t had an opportunity to look through them properly yet, but I would love good recipes for roast chicken … or cheesecake. 🙂

I’m not sure if it qualifies, but the perfect pot stickers recipe in “The Complete America’s Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook” is something we’ve enjoyed again and again. Our daughter was diagnosed with a peanut allergy, so we’ve been forced to avoid Chinese takeout, one of her favorite meals. The folks over at Cooks Illustrated and the Test Kitchen have really compiled some great recipes that allows us to have some awesom Chinese made in our own home.

Several of my go to recipes come from America’s Test Kitchen. Currently, I would say that the Ultimate Chocolate Cupcakes with Ganache Filling rate as my favorite. As with many of their recipes, this one seems like a lot of work when you read it. But, each process goes so efficiently that in the end it really doesn’t seem difficult or fiddly. The frosting is the best I’ve ever had, and I like that they provide several options for flavor combinations.

I have honestly never done more than paw through a few pages of one of their magazines but with my new passion for cooking, I would find a lot of use out of this cookbook. Hope I win.

My husband brought home CI’s New Best Recipe from the Library as a joke. He thought it was too big for all of those recipes to be the best, but I promptly sat on the couch & happily started flipping pages. Every recipe looked like one I wanted to try. I also loved all the tips scattered throughout the book. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’m going to choose a simple one that’s amazingly packed with flavor: Peanut Butter Cookies.

I like quite a lot of their recipes, but one that I’ve gone back to on multiple occasions is a recipe for red beans and rice that was in their 2008 Soups and Stews collection. A more recent regular issue had a recipe for red beans and rice that use canned beans but wasn’t as thick; I prefer the one that starts with dried beans (and takes three and a half hours of cooking, sigh).

I’ve gotten a lot of good recipes from them, though. The first one I ever used was a free recipe off their website for paella, which I made for my then-girlfriend (who’s now my wife). The first recipe I made from their magazines after I started my subscription was a raspberry bombe I made for dinner guests (who were suitably impressed). The most recent recipe I’ve used is probably the one for Cuban beans and rice, which was so good it’s also become a regular meal for us.
