The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook giveaway!

The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook
I’ve been enjoying my copy of The Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook, the newest cookbook from Chris Kimball and the rest of the team at America’s Test Kitchen. The huge book has more than 2000 recipes and was put out to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Cook’s Illustrated magazine. To read a full review of the book, check out this post. To do my own part in the celebration, I’m giving away a copy of the book to one lucky reader! .

To enter the contest, leave a comment below with your favorite Cook’s Illustrated recipe. Their exhaustively tested recipes always turn out a good product and almost everyone has at least one favorite that they turn to again and again. If you haven’t made any of their recipes before, just leave a comment with the recipe that you want to make most (since just about everything you could think of, with variations, is in here). The contest ends Friday, October 14th at midnight and the winner will be randomly selected from the entries. Don’t forget to fill in your e-mail on the comment form (it will not be public), as that is how I will contact the winner, and good luck!

Update: This contest is now closed. Congrats to Robert on winning the book and a huge thanks to everyone for participating and sharing your favorite recipes!

Anything they come up with is delicious, but my favorite is the classic CCC. It produces great cookies without a lot of extra steps or ingredients. I get rave reviews every time!

The November 2008 issue featured the most silkiest Pumpkin Pie EVER! This baby is not only delightfully smooth it has great pumpkin flavor, thanks to the addition of yams?! No seriously, this is the only pumpkin pie I make, and I am sure it will be for years to come unless of course CI makes another astronomical improvement on their already perfect pie.

Two totally different flavors: the challah french toast, and pad thai — no, it’s not perfectly authentic, but it’s better than almost all of the thai restaurants around here.

Sorry to say I too have never had the opportunity to cook any of the recipes, but I’d love to try any of the desserts. They call me the community baker at work, since I’m always bringing in something yummy to share with all my co-workers.

My favorite recipe is the one for butternut squash soup. I love that it extracts the flavor from the entire squash ,even the seeds. Very good.

The chocolate chip cookie recipe from “American Classics”. That is my go-to cookie recipe. A friend’s daughter asked that I make a big batch for her high school graduation a couple years ago she liked them so much. That’s a very stained page in the book from being open so much while butter is flying around – always a hallmark of a well used recipe.

I’ve never cared for meatloaf until my sister served me a meatloaf from Cook’s Illustrated best recipes. It was one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Since then, I’ve tried several of their recipes and can’t wait to try more. Their cooked carrots were quite simple and simply delicious.

I love all their recipes, and have tried many of them. It is so hard to pick because they all really are the best! Lemon bars, chocolate chip cookies, light guacamole, banana bread, blueberry muffins, coconut cream pie and coconut cake just to name a few. Sorry, was I supposed to name just one? I would definitely use this new cookbook, I already have it on my Amazon wish list!

I’m not sure this is my favorite or best but it is the most useful: The indoor steak tacos. The marinade is spectacular. and I’ve used it with chicken and pork as well as flank steak. Much better than ground beef!

I was never a fan of baked french fries. But the CI Baked French Fries were some of the best fries hands down. Crisp like a baked potato on the outside, soft (but not mushy) inside.
