  • Coca Cola is a surprisingly versatile ingredient. You might think of it only as a drink, but it can be a great addition to barbecue sauce, chocolate cake or even to a Mini Cherry Cola Kugelhopfs, like those that Maison Cupcake recently made. These miniature ring cakes are made with cherry cola, which gives them a uniquely sweet flavor and compliments the chocolate in the batter well. They’re topped off with a chocolate glaze that includes even more cola, as well as a few whole cherries for decoration and to emphasize that cherry flavor. If you don’t have mini kugelhopf molds, you can use miniature bundt pans or even make a bigger version of the recipe in a full size bundt.
  • Adding some whole grain flour to a recipe can give it a whole new flavor, making it a little heartier, a little more complex and a littler healthier. That is exactly what happened when Chocolate and Carrots made Whole Wheat Lemon Blueberry Scones, revamping a favorite recipe to use both whole wheat flour and whole wheat pastry flour. These scones are a great breakfast item and, although the recipe will make a big batch, they freeze quite well so that you can enjoy them any time without having to bake them from scratch. They use fresh blueberries and some fresh lemon zest, which gives them a bright, fresh flavor. If you’re preparing these for a brunch, whip up a quick glaze with lemon juice and confectioners sugar to give them a little extra finishing touch!
  • I don’t see pink cookies too often and Sinfully Spicy‘s Strawberry Nutella Thumbprint Cookies are almost too cute to eat. These eggless thumbprint cookies have crushed strawberries in the dough and are topped with a dollop of creamy Nutella, giving these a bit of a chocolate-covered strawberry flavor! Stock up on strawberries when you set out to try these because you might want to dip a few in the Nutella and eat them as-is while you’re waiting for the cookies to bake.
  • Another Nutella recipe is 6 BittersweetsChocolate Nutella Alfajores. These cookies have a layer of rich Nutella sandwiched between two chocolate wafer cookies. Traditionally, alfajores are cookies sandwiched with dulce de leche, but chocolate lovers will probably be too busy munching their way through a few of these indulgent cookies to worry about being a little nontraditional with a name – and you can count me into that group, too.
  • Who says that you can’t eat cookies for breakfast? Clearly, the Breakfast Biscotti that Lemonpi made are for that exact purpose. The biscotti include some whole wheat pastry flour, oats, walnuts and dried cranberries. The recipe is versatile and you can substitute other nuts and dried fruits into the biscotti for different flavor combinations. Like most biscotti, these keep well and make a great snack any time, as well as with a cup of coffee at breakfast.
