  • Blood orange season is almost over, and that is a good reason to stock up when you see them so that you can bake this Blood Orange Pound Cake from Eats Well with Others The pound cake is dense, but tender, with just enough blood orange juice and zest in the recipe to give it a distinct orange flavor. Then, it is drowned in a blood red glaze made from the juice of the leftover oranges, which takes this from a relatively ordinary looking pound cake into one that is very striking. Blood oranges vary slightly in color from one to another, so your glaze might be a touch lighter, but whatever color it turns out, it will still be delicious.
  • Snickerdoodles are a classic cookie, and they’re a good base for putting different variations on, such as turning them in to a batch of Stracciatella Snicerdoodles, like Tara’s Multiultural Table did. Stracciatella translates to “little shreds” in Italian, and the gelato flavor of that same name is filled with thin shards, rather than whole chunks, of chocolate. The cookies are also flecked with finely chopped chocolate, which means that you get a hint in each bite of buttery, cinnamon-sugar topped cookie.
  • Limoncello is an Italian liqueur that is known for its bright yellow color and intense lemon flavor. Cooking on the Front Burner baked up a batch of Limoncello Cupcakes using the liqueur for a springtime celebration. The cupcakes are lemony, and made with limoncello liqueur, lemon juice and lemon zest. They’re moist and tender, thanks to a combination of butter, cream cheese and buttermilk. They’re filled with homemade lemon curd and topped with a limoncello-spiked frosting. You’re going to get a whole lot of lemon flavor in each bite, which makes these a perfect treat for lemon-lovers.
  • You probably associate waffles with breakfast or brunch, but when you have a recipe like the Dark Chocolate Waffles from Technicolor Kitchen, you might want to move waffles onto your dessert menu. These waffles are made with a generous amount of cocoa powder, which gives them a dark chocolate color and plenty of chocolate flavor. The batter is also flecked with finely chopped dark chocolate. Whole chocolate chips don’t do well in most waffle makers, but small shards of chocolate will melt in the batter as it bakes and create little pockets of melted chocolate throughout the waffle. You could top these with butter and syrup, or you could top them with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of hot fudge.
  • You’ve probably had coffee cakes at brunch, but you may not have had tea cakes – as in cakes made with tea. Brewed Daily‘s Chai Tea Muffins with Chai Streusel are infused with extra strength chai tea to give them a black tea and spice flavor. The spices in the tea are reinforced with added cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and allspice in both the muffin itself and in the streusel topping. They’re perfect for tea lovers. If you’re a coffee-drinker, don’t worry: these spiced up muffins go just as well with a cup of joe.
