It’s hard to resist a cute little rubbery duck – and even harder when it is made out of chocolate. When Cybele reviewed an adorable little Easter Ducky at Candyblog, I was struck by how cute it was, but was disappointed to see that it looked better than it tasted. I saw that variety at the drug store and passed it by. I did not pass by the display of Easter Ducks when I saw them at a Leonidas chocolate shop the other day, however. Their little duckies are about 2.5-inches high and are made of molded white chocolate. It was hard to bring myself to eat one, but the white chocolate is creamy, smooth and definitely not as sweet as you might expect white chocolate to be. It’s really well balanced and very tasty. It doesn’t seem like they’re available online, but the ducks were $2 in stores and came in white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate (white is the cutest).
A selection that they do have online, however, is a big package of Foil-Wrapped Mini Easter Eggs. In nine different flavors – a mix of milk, dark and white chocolates with fillings that range from hazelnut to chocolate praline to Pop Rocks in ganache (not sure if this is in all the assortments, but it was in two different ones I got at the store) – this is a really great variety pack. The chocolate is all very smooth, with great flavor, and the fillings are a lot more interesting than what you’ll find in most mixes. The Pop Rock flavor is particularly fun and unexpected. There were a few packs in the store that were cheaper than the bulk price on the site, but still a good option for some gourmet Easter chocolates overall.

April 5, 2009Palmer chocolates always suck. No self-respecting chocaholic would go near one. Several steps below even Hersheys.
Leonidas is pretty good usually.
If you want cheaper good Easter chocolates, I would go for the Dove ones. Especially their dark chocolate.
