Swiss chocolate maker Frey is known for some of their creative flavor combinations and overall great-tasting chocolate. I’ve always had good luck with the bars I’ve tried in the past, including the unusual Citron & Poivre (Lemon & Pepper). One of my favorites is actually the White Blueberry Chocolate, which is creamy (but not too sweet)_ white chocolate packed with blueberries. Encouraged by my previous success with their white chocolate, as well as the blood orange kick that I’m currently on, I didn’t hesitate to try the Cinnamon & Blood Orange bar when I saw it at the store (Target).
The first thing noticed was the sweet, spicy smell of cinnamon that emanated from the bar as soon as I opened the packaging. The second, when I bit into the bar, was the sharp, bright taste of citrus. The two flavors came together beautifully and worked very well with the white chocolate, as it gives the flavors a creamy background but doesn’t distract from it in the way that dark or milk chocolate might (although both would still work beautifully with the citrus and cinnamon). Overall, this is a lovely chocolate bar. If I could bring myself to cut it up, I bet that it would be fantastic in a batch of cookies instead of just eaten plain.

January 8, 2008Yum! I’m pretty fond of Frey products — I loved the Gingerbread one they had out for the holidays. The only dud I’ve had so far is the Hot Chili Pepper. I haven’t tried any of the white chocolate varieties, but this is pretty persuasive!

September 10, 2008I’m inspired to at least try this one. I like pear and caramel and white blueberry is sitting on my desk waiting to be tried.
