While there are tons and tons of kitchen gadgets and toys that make great gifts, it can actually be quite tricky to buy for someone who loves to cook or bake. The really practical tools that every cook must have are probably already in your giftee’s kitchen, and you’re taking a chance by buying the more unusual ones, as they might actually go unused and become mere kitchen clutter. Ideally, you’ll be able to track down that practical or cool item that your chef/baker friend needs and doesn’t have. If you can’t go that route, go for something unique. I came across these personalized cake and brownie pans and think that they would really fit the bill. Both are made of lightweight aluminum – which, incidentally, I happen to really like for baking – and come with full sized covers that make them easy to travel with. The personalized engraving is done on the cover and you can get up to two lines of text. I really like the sample given of “Homemade by [insert name here]” but it might be cute to go with a funnier message, too, such as “Warning: Contents require milk!”
I can’t think of any baker who wouldn’t enjoy pans like these – especially if they, like me, tend to want to bring baked goods with them to share at work or at other gatherings.

December 13, 2007Love the concept, but I never use the covers. However, this would be a wonderful thing to hand down in the family, like in 20 years “ah, this was your Great-grandmother Abby’s pan! See here.”

April 29, 2008My cousin had one of these, 9×10, with her name engraved on the side. My sister teased her for being so “domestic”. Another cousin with a strange sense of humor gave my NON-BAKING sister one for christmas, as a JOKE! I was so jealous. And annoyed at the same time. I want one! But I can’t really steal my sisters with her name emblazoned on the side, now can I…
