24K Gold Barbecue

Posted on

24K BBQBling is just about everywhere these days and the once obscure term is known to just about everyone. No place is immune, not even the kitchen. Where stainless steel and copper were once the pinnacle of shine, now you can find gold. Beefeater has just introduced the Signature Series 6 Burner SL4000 – a $12,500 barbecue that has been entirely covered (excluding the cooking surfaces) in 24K gold!

It certainly is pretty, if not the most practical way to spend that kind of money. I’d much rather have a gold-plated oven.

Just kidding. What I really want in an oven is one that has a quick preheat time and a very reliable internal thermostat, so I don’t have to rely so heavily on additional oven thermometers. Of course, if a gold-plated oven were to come my way, I probably wouldn’t turn it down….

A gold-plated standing mixer would be pretty interesting, too!

Do convection ovens take the same time to preheat that regulars do? If so, at least they cook everything quicker.

They take slightly less time to preheat, but they do usually cook things more quickly. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the best thing for baked goods, as it can lead to overcooked edges and/or an undercooked center if you’re not careful about the settings.
I tend to use the convection on my oven mostly for crisping things up (over-baked chicken tenders, etc) and it works perfect for that!
