6 Non-Pie Desserts to Try This Thanksgiving

Pumpkin Pie Spice Cookie Butter Brownies

Pie is always a part of my Thanksgiving tradition, but it’s not the only dessert I serve because I love to have options. It’s fun to have variety and multiple desserts ensures that every guest you have is going to get something they like. Non-pie desserts are also a good option if you’re taking a dish to a family member’s house for the holidays, as most people already have their pie bases cover and want some additional options.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Cookie Butter Brownies – (pictured at top) Chocolate isn’t always a given at Thanksgiving, so a batch of these should be a welcome addition to the dessert table. The brownies have a seasonal twist because they are swirled with pumpkin pie spice cookie butter. The butter is available at Trader Joe’s, but can be made by stirring a teaspoon or so of pumpkin pie spice into any cookie butter.

Butter Pecan Slice and Bake Cookies

Butter Pecan Cookies – When I’m stuffed after a big Thanksgiving meal, sometimes I don’t have room for dessert (I just wait a few hours!). A batch of cookies are a great follow-up to a big meal because you will always have room for one. These pecan-packed cookies remind me of pecan pie, which makes them a good holiday option

Sweet Potato Bread Pudding with Marshmallow Topping

Sweet Potato Bread Pudding – This dessert is inspired by marshmallow-topped sweet potato casseroles, which are tasty but a little too sweet for a side dish most of the time in my book. This version has a rich, custardy base and is topped with lightly toasted mini marshmallows.

Dulce de Leche Pecan Tart

Dulce de Leche Pecan Tart – This one is, admittedly, almost a pie. Fortunately, it is much easier to make than a traditional pie, with a filling that only has a handful of ingredients, no corn syrup and lots of delicious pecans in ever bite. Even the crust is easy to make, as you simply press it into the pan, rather than rolling it out.

Pumpkin Pudding Cake

Pumpkin Pudding Cake – If you really want more pumpki*n pie at your table, this pudding cake is a solid choice. The base is a pudding-like version of pumpkin pie filling and it is topped with a fluffy cake-like layer. Best of all, this dessert forms into those two layers while baking, so you get a good looking dish with very little effort.

French Apple Cake

French Apple Cake – This is a spectacular dessert that you absolutely cannot go wrong with during a celebration. It is as packed with tender apples as apple pie, but they’re loaded into a custardy cake that has a buttery, sugary topping. It’s unique and downright delicious.
