Pumpkin Spice Latte M&Ms, reviewed

Pumpkin Spice Latte M&Ms, reviewed
Pumpkin pie spices have been making their way into a wide variety of products over the past few fall seasons with no signs of slowing down. While the combination of cinnamon, ginger and cloves has long been associated with pumpkin pie, I tend to think that it was the proliferation of pumpkin pie spice lattes that gave people a hint of other ways that these delicious spices can be used.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte M&Ms are just one of these new seasonal treats inspired by the popular coffeehouse drink. The candies are a bit larger than your average M&M and come in three fall colors: cream, dark brown and orange. There isn’t a strong smell of spices when you open the bag, but the candies have a terrific amount of spice once you start to eat them. Cinnamon and other spices burst into your mouth, followed by the mellow chocolate flavor that you expect from M&Ms. They have a nice candy-shell-to-chocolate ratio, since they are larger than average. The only problem with them is that the coffee element of the “latte” gets a bit lost in all that spice/ Though the overall idea is a good one, I would have liked to see more coffee (actually, I would buy coffee M&Ms in a heartbeat) flavor and a bit less spice.

If you happen to pick up a bag, you can eat them as a snack or use them for baking up a batch of fall-flavored cookies for the holidays! If you do try the cookies, consider adding some espresso powder to the dough to amp up the coffee element.

Nicole, your wish is M&M’s command. Now available at Target stores is M&M Cafe Mocha flavor! They are Xmas red and green colors only and have a much stronger coffee flavor. I now can add these on top of cappuccino cookies for an even stronger coffee flavor.
