6 Homemade Sweets for Your Sweetheart

Valentine's Day Funfetti Layer Cake
I believe that any food made with love can make a great Valentine’s Day treat for those who are special to you, even if it is something as simple as a batch of marshmallowy cereal bars. But taking a little bit of extra time on a special snack or favorite dessert will make your treat extra special.

Valentine’s Day Funfetti Cake (above) is an impressive dessert that will definitely please a sweetheart with a sweet tooth. Funfetti cakes are one of my favorites for birthdays and other celebrations, so why not make a pink and red variation for Valentine’s Day? The triple layer vanilla cake is fluffy and tender, so you can be assured that it tastes as good as it looks.

Baci di Dama

Baci di Dama means “lady’s kisses” in Italian, making them quite a romantic cookie from the name alone. The bite-sized sandwich cookies are made with hazelnut shortbread and filled with a touch of chocolate. They’re easy to make and a delight to eat.

Champagne White Chocolate Truffles

Champagne White Chocolate Truffles are a wonderful option if you want to serve something a little more unique than a traditional dark chocolate truffle. The velvety truffles are made with a champagne reduction, which infuses the white chocolate base with the uniqely toasted, nutty flavor of good champagne. There are no bubbles in these truffles, however, so save some champagne to serve alongside the finished chocolates!

Red Velvet Scones

Red Velvet Scones are perfect for breakfast in bed with your Valentine. The bright red scones get some help from red food coloring, but have the same flavors that you’ll find in a traditional red velvet cake. I finished these with a generous sprinkle of coarse sugar, but a drizzle of cream cheese would make a nice finishing touch here if you want something a little sweeter.

Conversation Heart Vodka

Conversation Heart Rum is one of my favorite Valentine’s Day treats because it is so fun to make. All you need to do is add your favorite flavor of conversation hearts to some good quality rum, then wait for the candies to dissolve. The colorful finished product will have a bold color and a fruity flavor. You can pack it up as a gift or use it to make some cocktails at home.

Conversation Heart Mendiants for Valentines

Conversation Heart Mendiants are an adorable way to get your message across, since the candies quite literally tell your Valentine how much they mean to you. The candies are easy to make and can be made using dark chocolate, milk chocolate or even white chocolate. Don’t forget to sort through your conversation hearts for the best looking pieces before you start, though!
