A coulis is a sauce made with fruit (or vegetables) that is strained to remove all pulp and seeds. Coulis appear frequently on restaurant menus as a way to add some additional flavor to a dessert (veggie coulis appear with structured salads and main dishes), but they are also used to make a simple dish look more elegant by enhancing the plating. Coulis add color, as well as flavor, and a vibrant and playful flourish on the plate can be the difference between a $7 dessert and a $13 dessert. Coulis are easy to make and over on the Craftsy blog (it’s free!!), I’m sharing two different recipes on my How to Make Coulis post, one for strawberry coulis and one for mango coulis. In addition to the recipes, you’ll find some photo tutorials that will show you a variety of ways that you can use coulis at home. They’re easy, delicious and can take your desserts to the next level!!
