Every year, I look forward to Girl Scout Cookie season. I was a Girl Scout for a few years growing up and really enjoyed getting out there and selling – as well as eating! – all those delicious cookies. Some of the cookie flavors are staples that have been around for decades and will be around for decades to come. Other cookie flavors come and go as the Girl Scouts try to keep up with current baking trends and give new flavor combinations a try.
This year, there are three new Girl Scout Cookie flavors that you should keep an eye out for:
- Toffee-tastic: Gluten free butter cookies with toffee bits
- Trios: Gluten free cookies made with peanut butter, chocolate chips and oats
- Rah-Rah Raisins: Oatmeal raisin cookies with yogurt chips.
Two of the new cookie flavors are gluten free, which is a good sign that there was a lot of interest in last year’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, and at least one should be available in every area where Girl Scout Cookies are sold, though some areas may see one and not the other.  The fact that the chocolate chip cookies aren’t back in the lineup suggests that the cookies themselves were not a success. After eating a few myself, I felt that they definitely could have come up with a better tasting and better looking gluten free cookie – especially since traditional Girl Scout cookies are so cute! Hopefully the new gluten free cookies are up to the standards of the traditional Girl Scout cookies that we’ve all been looking forward to for so many years.
