Whether you are baking a batch of muffins or making a batch of oatmeal, there are many different dishes that can benefit from a finishing sprinkle of sugar. Sugar – especially coarse sugar with large crystals – can add nice sweetness and texture when used to finish a dish, but sugar alone doesn’t add any extra flavor to take a dish over the top. One option is to use flavored sugars to finish your dishes, and I’ve done this with my own homemade Lemon and Vanilla Sugars.
The Baker’s Bliss Finishing Sugar Set from Flavorstorm is a set of sugars designed to add more than just a little texture to your baked goods. The set includes six deeply flavored organic sugars – vanilla, cinnamon, clove, espresso, raspberry and ginger – all of which that can add a strong pop of flavor. You can roll sugar cookie dough in vanilla sugar before baking, or top off pumpkin spice muffins with a sprinkle of clove sugar. Apple pies can benefit from a sprinkle of ginger or cinnamon over the top of a buttery pie crust. Each jar is 4.5 ounces, and while the sugar is more expensive than your standard sugar, it is intended to be used in very small doses – a few teaspoons at a time – and you will get a lot of use out of the set over time.
