There is nothing like fresh, sweet corn on the cob during the summer when it is at its peak. The corn is delicious as-is, with the cobs steamed or grilled and served piping hot. I also frequently take the corn off the cobs, adding it to salads and salsas, or to cornbreads and creamed corn. I usually cut corn off the cob with my chefs knife, but when you are cutting the corn off more than a few cobs, this gets to be a very time consuming process. This is exactly why kitchen gadget companies have come out with “corn strippers,” which zip down the cob and take off the corn in a much quicker and less tedious fashion.
These strippers still take several passes to get all the corn off the cob, though, and even the time they take can add up if you’re doing a big batch. That is where something even faster comes in. The RSVP Shuck Deluxe Corn Stripper has a tube that holds one ear of corn, and the round stripper blade gets pushed down over the cob to take off the corn from all sides at once. The tube also catches the corn and prevents any splatter from escaping as the kernels come off the cob. The tube measures 2 3/4″ across and is 8 1/4″ high, so it will fit most corn cobs (except unusually large cobs), too.
