5 Great Thanksgiving Dessert Ideas

Pumpkin Desserts
Need a little extra inspiration for your Thanksgiving table? These five desserts are some of my favorite things to serve at Thanksgiving.

  • Perfect Pumpkin Pie is sure to be a hit at any Thanksgiving table. Pumpkin pie is a holiday staple, and the warm spices of this pie really make the dessert stand out from any pumpkin pie you can buy in the store. Use a homemade crust or a graham cracker one, as both will give you good results.
  • Although pumpkin pies are not difficult to make, you can whip up a batch of Impossible Pumpkin Pie Cupcakes if you’re pressed for time. These mini pumpkin pies are baked in muffin tins – no crust required. They’re a neat single serving dessert that delivers all the flavor of a big pumpkin pie without any of the fuss of putting it together.
  • You probably already have some cranberry sauce in the fridge to serve with your turkey, but you can also put it to good use in this Blackberry Cranberry Sauce Cobbler. The rich, fruity cobbler is easier to put together than a double crust pie. The cranberry sauce thickens the filling and adds a great tanginess that contrasts with the sweet blackberries.
  • Sweet potato pie is another Thanksgiving classic, and Brown Sugar Cardamom Sweet Potato Pie adds just enough new flavors to make the traditional pie more exciting. The pie gets a lot of sweetness from the sweet potato, while the brown sugar adds a depth of flavor and a molasses note that you can’t get from white sugar and the cardamom brightens everything up with a slightly citusy zing.

  • Pecan pies can be a bit too sweet, but this Honey Pecan Tart has a great balance of salty and sweet, thanks to the salted pecans that make up most of the filling. The tart has a much smaller filling-to-nut ratio than a traditional pie does, so you get a lot of flavor from the buttery crust and from the nuts themselves, not from a sweet corn syrup filling (and this filling is 100% natural, too).

I love the pumpkin pie cupcakes! I make them regularly during the fall and winter. They are actually relatively healthy and make a great snack! Can’t wait to try the pecan pie cupcakes since my husband loves pecan pie 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving! I didn’t make it in time for Thanksgiving (and I’m not cooking anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter), but I’m going to try your apple butter pie.
