I must be the changing weather that is getting me into the holiday spirit already, because as soon as I saw this Snowman Cake Pan from Nordicware, it brought a smile to my face. The pan is about the size of an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch loaf pan, which means that it holds about 5 cups of batter in it, so you can pretty easily substitute it for a regular loaf pan when you’re doing holiday baking. The only exceptions would be for loaves that you know come close to overfilling larger, 9×5 inch loaf pans (most don’t, and you can always pour a bit of the batter off into a muffin cup or two if you’re unsure). A plain cake is going to give you the cleanest result, where you’ll see the most definition in the snowman’s face and on his broom, but it makes a nice presentation for any loaf cake. One of my favorite holiday quick breads is a Cranberry and Orange Bread that will give you a well-shaped and tasty loaf, even though you might not get every detail from the snowman because of the cranberries.
