  • Eating SF‘s Brown Sugar Cake looks very simple at first glance, but just because a cake doesn’t have a half dozen layers doesn’t mean it can’t pack in a lot of flavor. This cake is made with brown sugar and a mixture of all purpose, whole wheat and amaranth flours, which all come together to give the cake a bit of a nutty flavor in addition to a sweet, brown sugar one. This cake takes little time to make and can be served plain, with a bit of sugar or ice cream, or it can be frosted if you want to dress it up a bit.
  • The Pina Colada Layer Cake that the Biscuit Pusher baked up also starts with a brown sugar cake. This one is baked into three layers and used to sandwich layers of pineapple filling and coconut buttercream, in a cake that will give you a taste of the tropics – or at least the feel of a tropical cocktail! The flavors in this cake work very well together, and you could use the brown sugar base for a variety of other recipes if you are inclined to experiment with your own flavor combinations.
  • Oatmeal is a great addition to sandwich breads because it seems to make them more moist, more flavorful and add just the right amount of whole grain to give them a little bit of heartiness, enough to stand up to most fillings. The Oatmeal Sandwich Bread at Cafe Fernando is simple bread that is perfect for everyday use. It has whole wheat flour, in addition to oatmeal and bread flour, and just a touch of molasses for sweetness and color. Use it for sandwiches, french toast or just spread warm slices with soft butter and enjoy!
  • You might think that things like strawberry lemonade are better left for the summer months, but when that summertime classic gets remade into a Strawberry Lemonade Meringue Pie – which is exactly what Dessert For Breakfast did – it is not only perfect for summer, but perfect for breast cancer awareness month. The pie consists of both a strawberry lemonade curd and a lemon curd swirled together inside a pie crust and topped with meringue. The bright flavor of the lemon brings out the sweetness of the large berries in the pie.
  • Caramel popcorn is a great fall treat, but it’s even better when you can dress it up a little bit and give it more flavor than you would find in a prepacked box of the stuff. A La Carte Kitchen‘s Caramel Macchiato Popcorn Balls are the perfect grown up twist for this classic treat. The very easy to make treat blends espresso and chocolate chips into caramel for a little burst of caffeine and a darker sweetness than you’d find with other recipes. Plus, the treats take so little time to make you just might find yourself making them more than once over the holiday season
