Hershey’s Kisses can always be counted on to come out with at least one special edition flavor for any given holiday. The kisses are bite sized, which makes them a good vehicle for trying out new flavors without committing to eating (or possibly throwing away) an entire chocolate bar. For Halloween this year, Hershey’s has out Candy Corn Kisses, Pumpkin Spice Kisses and, apparently, Caramel Apple Kisses. I would jump on the caramel apple candies, but I haven’t seen them in stores near me. I have, however, seen the Pumpkin Spice Kisses and picked up a bag to see how my favorite fall spice blend translated into a candy form.
The candies are not chocolate, as they have no cocoa butter in their ingredients, but they do have a distinct flavor of white chocolate. The spice is primarily in the outer orange layer, while the center of the kiss is a cheesecake-like vanilla cream. It’s actually a very good combination for a candy. They got quite soft at room temperature, but I felt that it added to the cheesecake notes that I got from each kiss. They’re sweet, and so I wouldn’t eat more than two at a time, but they are a nice twist for fall and would be great mixed into a bowl with regular chocolate kisses and served at a Halloween party.

October 9, 2008I’m stopping by from Magic Sprinkles site. She did a beautiful version of your cinnamon bun bread..and I just had to come over for a visit to your site.
I picked up a bag of the candy corn variety They tasted like marshmallows and they were super sweet. I could only eat 2 at a time. It sounds like the pumpkin ones are the same sweet wise.

October 9, 2008I was wondering how these were! The candy corn variety too. I figured, though, that without the chocolate they wouldn’t be for me! 🙂

October 9, 2008I did my own little review of these too because I had high expectations and was very disappointed. I have yet to find anybody that liked them and even tried giving them away!
I love your website and every recipe I have tried from here has been a success. Thanks for all the wonderful work!

October 9, 2008I am eating the Caramel Apple kisses as we speak! They are very good. They do have a chocolate shell. I found mine at Walmart.
I had the Pumpkin Spice last week and really liked them. What makes them even better is DH and kids do not like them so they are MINE, ALL MINE!!! LOL

October 10, 2008I haven’t had the Pumpkin Spice ones yet, but I have had the candy corn (eh…) & the caramel apple, & I have to say that the caramel apple really does taste exactly like one! It’s chocolate-coated, so it’s more like one of the ones you get from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I approved wholeheartedly; I couldn’t believe how well they were able to nail down that apple flavor!

October 10, 2008Those look wonderful! I’m going to have to try those and the other flavors sound delightful, too!

October 10, 2008These worked well pressed into the top of pumpkin cookies, like you might with regular Kisses and peanut butter cookies. To make pumpkin cookies, I used my standard drop cookie batter and replaced half the butter with pumpkin puree.

October 11, 2008I liked the caramel apple, but no matter what flavors they come up with, I always return to their nuggets called Extra Creamy Milk Chocolate with Toffee and Almonds (and this is from a dark chocolate eater who would never, in any other circumstance, touch milk chocolate)

October 14, 2008Ooo yum. I`m excited about all the new flavors, but I haven’t seen any yet, so I may need to get on the hunt.

January 7, 2011For all of us Celiac Sprue sufferers, the Hershey’s Pumpkin Spice Kiss is gluten-free and a real treat. So smooth with a lovely pumpkin/nutmeg kind of spice. MMMMMM!!!
