Really creepy cakes

If you’re looking for a way to go all-out for Halloween and make a really, truly scary cake, you might want to take a look at the Halloween cakes at They’re Coming. The site specializes in horror movie reviews, but really pulled out all the stops with the designs of a few cakes. The designs include a Killer Rats Cake, a Thorax Cake and a Zombiefest cake. Each one starts with a regular cake (or several) that is sculpted into the required shape, much as whimsical cakes are sculpted.

I love the rat cake, but the Thorax cake is my favorite. Each of the anatomically correct organs is made of a different flavor of cake and is filled with a different fruit sauce. The site includes lots of pictures to document how the cakes were made, but no real recipes, so you’ll have to find a cake recipe that you like (or use a mix, so you can devote all your time to sculpting, if you must) before starting out.
