Cake and pizza lifter

cake lifterShifting cake layers around the kitchen can be tricky, especially when you’re making a cake with several layers, because there is always a risk of a piece of cake tearing or breaking in two. Once the cake is stacked up, frosted or not, it is almost impossible to move (undamaged and in one piece) unless it is already on a cake stand. Cheesecakes and other delicate single-layer cakes are difficult to move around in general. In light of this, I generally try to assemble all of my cakes on the serving tray or cake stand that I want to use to begin with, even if it is not the ideal place to work on a cake.

I just ordered a gadget that will make moving cakes – layered or not – around much easier, the Norpro Stainless Steel Cake/Pizza Lifter. Essentially a giant, sturdy spatula, the cake lifter measures 10-inches in diameter and is strong enough to pick up most cakes and move them around with ease. It can be used as a pizza peel (as the name suggests) to pull hot pizzas and breads out of the oven, too.

It’s also great for getting pie dough from the rolling surface into the baking dish. Enjoy!

Now that is a cool little gadget. I’d probably use it more for pizzas because I don’t bake that much. Great idea.

    Oh, this is brilliant!

Occasionally, I’ll use my pie-crust gadget for tasks such as these, but this? Perfect. Must grab one.
