At the end of last year, I notedon Slashfood that there were a tremendous number of bacon-themed and bacon-flavored products out there that you wouldn’t expect – and that people were coming up with new ones all the time. Bacon cereal, bacon breakfast cookies, bacon sandwiches and bacon wallets are just a few. But the vast majority of the bacon creations were homemade ones (like my bacon pancakes). It is only now that some mainstream companies are releasing bacon infused products seriously – and I’m not just talking about adding another double bacon hamburger to a menu board somewhere.
Vosges Chocolate has just introduced a bacon chocolate bar. Mo’s Bacon Baris milk chocolate studded with crisp pieces of Applewood smoked bacon and finished with Alder smoked salt. Vosges offers a few tips to consumers about how to eat their exotic chocolate bars to fully appreciate them, but the fact that this particular bar was released has to make you wonder if other chocolatiers will follow suit, especially when foodies in magazines and on TV are continuously touting the flavorful virtues of bacon.

September 21, 2007I’ve got one in my pantry right now! It’s very good. Assuming, of course, you like bacon! It’s kind of like the joy of a bacon waffle from It’s Tops in San Francisco. You get the flavor of the chocolate, and the creamy mouthfeel, but it’s infused with bacony scent and has a crunchiness from the salt. It’s a multi-sensory experience.
Personally, though, I’m lean a little more towards the Vosges deep milk chocolate with goji berries and pink Himalayan sea salt. Oh dear. Also multi-sensory, but a little more subtle, with a fruity notes.
If the bars weren’t so expensive, I’d be trying a lot more of them. But I’ll have to work my way through these two and then consider trying others!

March 11, 2009I heard that there were bacon-mints too. Now, I do love bacon but it`s still a little strange, mixing bacon & chocolate. I would also like to know where one could purchase these chocolate bars. I haven`t seen any around yet.
