It seems as though my clues were helpful, because it took one reader no time at all to figure out that my mystery trip was to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. Fantastic job, Ericka! She will be receiving a copy of the oh-so-appropriate cookbook The South American Table: The Flavor and Soul of Authentic Home Cooking from Patagonia to Rio de Janeiro.
Thanks to everyone who played along. As something of a consolation prize – not to mention as a way for me to put some of those 1,100 photos to good use – I have put together a small Flickr gallery with some of my favorite photos from the trip. I’ll also be featuring a handful of Ecuadorian (or Ecuadorian-inspired) recipes over the next couple of weeks to share some of the flavor of the region.

July 6, 2007Hey there Nicole!
Glad you got your vacation in. I always come back feeling depressed and go into pandemoniums of missing the place I had visited (this year was Italy for me).
However, I have to let you know… I am in withdrawal right now. Withdrawals from you and yr baking entries. =P

July 22, 2007Hey Nicole!
I just got my copy of the South American Table, and I can’t wait to get started cooking out of it. Ok, in all fairness, I got it yesterday, but I had to finish Harry Potter first. Now that I’m done I can return to the rest of the world, where the threat of spoilers now means nothing 🙂 Thank you again! And I truly enjoyed your pictures 😀

April 10, 2009Just looking at the photos, it seemed you had a blast in your vacation, with all the nature and travel spots in there.
Vacations do really refresh our beings, don’t they? Well, I’m working on mine, too!
