Brownies, Blondies, and Bars

Posted on

Brownies, Blondies, and BarsYou can never go wrong with a batch of freshly baked cookies when it comes to homemade baked goods, but bar cookies tend to take even less time than drop cookies and can be equally, if not more, delicious. In Brownies, Blondies, and Bars, you’ll find dozens of recipes for all kinds of bar cookies that are easy to make and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth on just about any occasion.

The book opens with a few baking tips that will help to streamline the baking process. For instance, the author recommends that you line your pans with aluminum foil to help get those bars out cleanly, which is a trick that I also like to use. The introdution is short and you get right to the recipes after the list of tips. The book is divided into three chapters: Brownies, Blondies and Bars. Each section covers a variety of delicious variations on each theme, offering up recipes that would be good for a bake sale (S’mores Brownies), a holiday celebration (Eggnog Meltaway Bars) or an afternoon snack (M&M Pretzel Blondies). The recipes are very staightforward and most of them require ingredients that are likely to be in your kitchen already if you bake on a regular basis, which makes it even easier to get started with any recipe that catches your eye.

There are plenty of full color photographs in the book that showcase the bars featured in it. In the opening tips section of the book, the author recommends chilling your bars before slicing to get the neatest slices possible. Looking at the pictures, you can see how that technique would come in handy for some of the gooier bars or bars with layers of caramel, though you can probably skip that step if you’re not planning to photograph each recipe (it’s worth a try if you are, however!). This is the kind of book that has some great staple recipes that you’re likely to come back to over and over when looking for simple, satisfying baking projects, which makes it a good choice for just about any collection.
