See’s Candy is known for lots of delicious confections, but they are not known for having a wide variety of chocolates that can be used in baking, unlike many other candy companies. I suppose that you could try cutting up their buttercreams and stirring them into a cake, if you really wanted to give it a go. A better alternative would be to try using See’s Semisweet Chocolate Chips if you want to incorporate some See’s into your home baking. See’s sells these in-store (although not all stores seem to stock them) and they run about $5.99 per 16-oz bag.
These chocolate chips are one of the few baking items that the candy company sells and they are a good one. They’re semisweet chocolate, so they’re more towards the dark chocolate end of the spectrum than the milk chocolate end, but they are balanced enough that you can easily eat them by the handful straight out of the bag. This is a good thing because the chips have a very nice melt to them that makes them more enjoyable to eat than your average chocolate chip. The chips are large and flat-ish, roughly a half-inch in diameter. They look like they’re made by hand (not sure if they are), so they add a lot of character – not to mention flavor – to a batch of cookies.
