Store shelves are already full of Christmas decorations and other products, and while I tend to shy away from them this early, I don’t even try to resist taking a look at the seasonal candies, whether the candy companies are releasing limited edition holiday flavors of their products or simply putting them in red/green/blue/white seasonal wrappers. Junior Mints Peppermint Crunch falls into the former category. Like regular Junior mints, Junior Mints Peppermint Crunch has a soft mint center surrounded by a layer of dark chocolate. The thing that sets them apart is that they have “some crunchy bits” added to the chocolate for a little bit of a different texture and a more festive look.
The crunchy bits are red, and appear to be made of something like crushed nonpareils (almost exactly the same as the uncrushed nonpareils found in Hershey’s candy cane kisses. Their presence makes the shell seem harder than usual, although when I compared it directly to a plain Junior Mint, there wasn’t a huge difference between the two.
When compared to the original candies, I have to admit that I’m not blown away by these simply because they aren’t all that different. That said, as a Junior Mint fan, I’d definitely buy them again before they leave the shelves because the flavor of the candy (as usual) is good and I liked the novelty of having something a little different than the standard mint to munch on.
