Bloom Energy review

Bloom Energy is a new, fruit juice-based energy drink from Del Monte. Each lightly carbonated beverage has 100 calories per 10.5-oz can and delivers a full serving of fruit, as well as Vitamins B, C and D, calcium and a boost of antioxidants. They are also naturally caffeinated using white tea extract and guarana. Every can has about as much caffeine as a cup of coffee (74 mg). New to the market, Bloom Energy is only available in a few markets at the moment (Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Phoenix) but will be released elsewhere later this year.

The drinks are available in three flavors - mango passionfruit, cran raspberry and wild berry – and all three are equally delicious. The fruit flavors really shine through and there isn’t an artificial or overly sugary taste (no corn syrup in these!) to them. The carbonation is very light, but the light effervescence works well here; not only do the bubbles cut the sweetness and make the drink refreshing, but Del Monte was able to avoid the pitfall of making the drink taste as if it has gone flat, which is a common problem with “lightly carbonated” drinks.

If I had to pick a favorite, I’d choose the mango passionfruit flavor, although I wouldn’t turn down any of the flavors. I’ll look for these in stores later this summer when they’re more widely available. The energy boost is nice, but the light, fruity taste makes these a welcome change from sodas and such on hot days.

This reads more like a press release than a review. If you were compensated for posting it, you should make that clear to your readers.

Skeptic – I wasn’t compensated for reviewing these, I just liked them. Hope that clears things up.

And, for future reference, if I were ever offered compensation for reviewing something (unlikely), I would definitely make it known.
