Baking Bites for Craftsy: Green Velvet Bundt Cake

The color green is closely associated with St Patrick’s Day and that makes it a great opportunity to play with food coloring and infuse some color into your desserts! Red velvet cake is one of the most colorful desserts out there and, this year, I started with that classic recipe as a base to create this Green Velvet Bundt Cake – and I’m sharing the recipe over on the Craftsy blog (it’s free!!). The bundt cake has a buttermilk base that has hints of cocoa powder and vanilla to it. The combination of these flavors is what really makes it a twist on a red velvet cake, not just the fact that there is food coloring in the batter. You do need to be generous with the food coloring to get this deep green color, as the cocoa powder will darken the batter a bit. I recommend using a gel or paste food coloring, which have greater intensity than regular liquid food colorings. If the color is a little too deep for you, add in a few drops of yellow to lighten up the green. The result will be a rich, moist cake that is fun to look at and to eat. Top this cake with any vanilla buttercream and some green sprinkles!
