Starbucks Christmas Tree Frappuccino, reviewed

Starbucks’ latest limited edition offering is a very seasonal one: the Christmas Tree Frappuccino. Like the Unicorn Frappuccino that came out earlier this year, they really dressed up this drink to help put you in the holiday spirit. The frappuccino has a peppermint mocha base and is topped with a green “tree” whipped cream that gets its color from matcha powder. The “tree” is decorated with a caramel drizzle, cranberry bits and a strawberry topper. It’s red and green and very festive to look at.

If you’re a fan of mint chocolate – which I happen to be – you’ll probably love this drink. It’s smooth and chocolaty, with just the right hint of mint to make it refreshing. The matcha whipped cream had a mild matcha flavor and actually worked quite well, flavor-wise, with the mint chocolate, but you can probably ask for plain whipped cream if you’re not a big fan of matcha. The cranberry bits were caramelized and tasted almost like toffee bits, adding a nice finishing touch to the drink. And that strawberry is the same freeze dried variety that goes into the Refreshers, not a fresh berry, so don’t be surprised when you see it. They placed the strawberry on the whipped cream so that it poked out of the lid when the drink was served, which I thought was a cute touch.

This drink is only available from December 7th – December 11th, so pick one up while you can if you want to give it a try. In the past, some of these limited edition offerings sold out very quickly, but this one has a few more common components, so it should last into the weekend.
