The Dollop Book of Frosting

The Dollop Book of FrostingFrosting is the stuff you put on top of a cupcake, or in between the layers of a whoopie pie. People often pay more attention to what the frosting is going onto than to the frosting itself. The fact is that a good frosting can make or break a dessert and sometimes all you need is to get out of the rut of making plain vanilla and chocolate frostings over and over again. The Dollop Book of Frosting: Sweet and Savory Icings, Spreads, Meringues, and Ganaches for Dessert and Beyond is a book that showcases dozens of frostings in all their glory and shows you just how much you can go with a good one.

The book isn’t just full of pages of frosting recipes on their own. Each frosting recipe is paired with a dish – from something as simple as plain vanilla cupcakes to a batch of spicy sriracha brownies – so you start out with a great dish to pair it with. These frostings are flavorful, though, and the idea of the book is that they will inspire you to get more creative with your own flavor combinations and frosting concoctions. The recipes include both sweet and savory frostings (yes, there are some savory dishes in the book, such as Corn Dog Cupcakes with Honey Mustard Frosting), but the vast majority of the recipes stay on the sweet side of things with cookies, cakes and brownies

It is easy to get excited about frosting when you’re flipping through the book. Reading the flavor combinations will make your mouth start to water and the photos make the dishes look both fun and delicious. You will probably realize that there is a lot more that you can do with frosting than you previously thought – and your own cupcakes will probably start to get a little bit more exciting once you begin to replace vanilla frosting with all kinds of other tasty flavors.
