Hershey’s with Crisp Corn Bits, reviewed

When I first noticed the Hershey’s with Crisp Corn Bits bar in the candy aisle at my local supermarket, a series of thoughts ran quickly through my mind: What is that? Corn? Who wants corn in a candy bar? It kind of looks like those honeycomb chocolates on the package, but those don’t have corn in them. I wonder if it’s crunchy. It’s on sale - no harm in trying it, right? But still, corn?!

The chocolate did not, of course, have actual corn in it, but what seemed to be bits of cornflakes. The “crisp corn bits” were very crunchy - far crunchier than the chocolate bars made with puffed rice - and actually made the chocolate bar very enjoyable, although I must say that the corm bits were neither as big nor as yellow as they appear on the wrapper (though you can see them if you look closely).

Before I opened the wrapper, I checked the Hershey’s website, which did not list this particular bar. The wrapper did not indicate whether it was a “new” or “limited edition” item, either. All things considered, I think the name is off-putting but that the chocolate bar is actually pretty good. The chocolate was creamy (although a bit melty due to the heat) and I liked the added crunch of the cornflakes. I wouldn’t go out of my way, but if they turn up on sale again, I’d reach for it before one of the puffed-rice chocolate bars.

I’ve been wondering for years why we don’t have more corn-flake-crunch bars. There’s a nice one from Ritter Sport called Knusperflakes that I really like and you can even get chocolate covered corn flakes by Paskez in Israel.

I’ll keep an eye out for this one.

That chocolate piece pic is amazingly clear. And it even shows evidence of a hot day :)

Yeah, I tried to pull out a couple of other pieces, but those darn melty spots just kept springing up! I guess I can’t fight with nature - especially since I’m not one to refrigerate my chocolate in the name of nonmeltyness (that’s a word, right?).

Sounds like a cheap version of Domori’s chocolate covered toasted corn kernels, which if you like salty and sweet, are absolutely addictive! I guess the corn flake texture is somewhat reminiscent of a Nestle’s Crunch? Next trip to the US I’ll have to look for it…

Nope. I’ll take plain, smooth and creamy Hershey’s Chocolate Bar. Some things just shouldn’t have “stuff” in them. A chocolate bar is one of them. LOL I enjoy your blog, BTW.
