Waffles & Syrup Oreos, reviewed

Waffles & Syrup Oreos, reviewed
I’ve tried a lot of the special edition Oreos and, while there are some hits and some misses, it’s always fun to see how the flavors come together. One of the new flavors that intrigued me was the Waffles & Syrup Oreos. Maple-flavored syrup seemed like an easy flavor to get into a cookie, but waffles? Much to my surprise, the cookies tasted a lot like Eggo waffles – at least, the flavor reminds me of the Eggo waffles I sometimes had as an on-the-go breakfast growing up.

The cookies are crisp, vanilla wafers that see to have a hint of butter flavor to them. The cookie’s filling is white and yellow, with the yellow circle reminding me of the pat of butter you might put on top of a waffle. The center of the filling appears to be the source of most of the maple flavor and is slightly firmer than the rest of the creme, while the white creme tastes like buttery maple-flavored syrup. Surprisingly, the cookies and filling work well together and the combination is much tastier than I thought it would be. That said, it’s a little unnerving to eat a cookie that tastes like a waffle, so I don’t find these to be as snackable as some other Oreo options, even though they are tasty. I also don’t think they’re quite as versatile when it comes to baking (which I love to do with Oreos to make cookies n’ cream treats), so make sure you have some friends around to help eat them when you open the package, as this isn’t a great option for making a batch of cookies n’ cream ice cream with the leftovers.
