Bites from other Blogs

Bites from other BlogsWhile I sometimes have a theme going for Bites from other Blogs, I skipped that this time around. With no holidays on the immediate horizon, people are finding their inspiration in many places – and I am, too! These recipes are a mix of classics and innovation, and I’m sure you’ll find a few worth making this week.

  • Cakespy will walk you through everything you need to know to make Unicorn Donuts in her fantastic tutorial. They’re much easier to make that you might think and they’re basically too cute to eat. Have your phone ready because you are going to Instagram the heck out of these amazing pastries once you put them together.
  • The Cherry Bourbon Ale Croissant French Toast from Craft Beering just might be the ultimate brunch dish for craft beer fans. The dish is made by lining muffin cups with chopped up croissants, then soaking them in a beer-infused custard mixture. The beer is actually bourbon barrel aged ale, and it also goes into the homemade cherry compote filling up each of the french toast cups. Decadent!
  • Cuisine Fiend‘s Buckwheat Berry Striped Cake is a festive option for Memorial Day or the 4th of July, but it is a tasty option for any summer occasion. The cake is made with a mixture of almond flour, all purpose flour, whole grain flour and buckwheat flour, all of which combine to give this cake a tender crumb and a nutty flavor that works well with the berries lining the top of it. Use a mixture of berries for multiple colors, or just pick your favorite berry and go with that!
  • That Skinny Chick Can Bake is getting ready for summer with these Rustic Berry Turnovers. The easy-to-make turnovers start with a homemade pastry that has a hint of lemon to it, and they’re filled with cinnamon-kissed mixed berries. Make them with whatever is in season for best results.
  • Recipe Throwback: This No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream is a recipe that I make all the time – and you should, too! It couldn’t be any easier to put together and no special equipment is required. My favorite thing about it is that it is so easy to throw in some mix ins, like crushed oreos or caramel sauce, to transform the simple base into a custom flavor.
