America's Best Breakfasts: Favorite Local Recipes from Coast to CoastI’m a big breakfast person and when I travel, one of the first things that I figure out is where I can get a great breakfast in the morning. America’s Best Breakfasts: Favorite Local Recipes from Coast to Coast is a book that has collected many great breakfast recipes from local favorites all in one book. From Hawaii to Washington DC, you’ll find recipes from dozens of delicious diners, bakeries and restaurants and, armed with these recipes, you can learn to make some of these local favorites at home.

The book starts on the west coast with a selection of recipes from Los Angeles. The recipes throughout the book offer a nice variety of sweet and savory, with both easier and more complicated recipes to choose from. I really appreciated the fact that the authors aimed for recipes that really represented the restaurants’ dishes, even if they have multiple components (something common in restaurants and less common at home) because it allows you to make a completely authentic reproduction of your favorite recipes. The recipes are clearly written and, while you might need some special ingredients for some of the dishes (lobster for some over-the-top scrambled eggs, for instance), the results are well worth any extra shopping time. Most of the recipes are illustrated by photos that will get your mouth watering, especially if you happen to be reading the book in the morning before you’ve eaten your own breakfast!

Of course, you don’t have to cook the recipes in this book to benefit from buying a copy. You can also use it as a guide when you’re traveling to find some great breakfast spots. It’s particularly useful in larger cities if you’re going to use it as a travel breakfast reference, as they have multiple entries while smaller cities often only have one. You don’t need to base your whole trip around breakfast, but that early morning detour can really get your day – and the rest of your trip – off to a fantastic start.
