Sweet Mornings: 125 Sweet and Savory Breakfast and Brunch Recipes

Posted on

Sweet MorningsThey say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I’m still not entirely sure who “they” are, but I tend to agree – not just because I am often hungry when I get up in the morning, but because there are so many fantastic breakfast foods out there that I just can’t see why anyone would want to skip this particular meal. In Sweet Mornings: 125 Sweet and Savory Breakfast and Brunch Recipes, there are plenty of tasty recipes to choose from that will all get your morning started off on the right foot.

The introduction to the book keeps things short and sweet, with only a couple of pages devoted to ingredients and tools that you need to have in your kitchen. It also includes a single page with some suggestions for Cereal Toppers & Mix-Ins, which I found to be a very good idea. The guide will give you over a dozen easy ways to add some flavor to hot and cold cereals – so you don’t necessarily need to bake to make your breakfast more interesting. Most of the other recipes in the book will, however, require the use of your oven or cooktop. The rest of the recipes are divided into sweet and savory options, with a strong emphasis on the sweet side of things. From Old Fashioned Crumb Cake to Red Velvet Pancakes, there is something for just about every occasion. The recipes are easy to follow, with clearly written directions. Some of the recipes suggest convenience products – buttermilk biscuit dough, for instance – that you can use to streamline the recipe process and save some time while preparing breakfast for guests. It’s nice to have the option because it turns breakfast treats like Apple Cinnamon Bear Claws into dishes that you don’t have to spend hours working on.

Many of the recipes are accompanied by stories of the people or events that inspired them, which gives the book a homey feeling. There are quite a few photos illustrating the recipes, but not all of the recipes are accompanied by photos of the finished dishes. You could easily make a very satisfying brunch for a big crowd using recipes from this book – and probably many brunches. If you’re a breakfast fan, this one is worth adding to your collection.
