Beekman 1802 Cranberry Orange Scone Mix, reviewed

Beekman 1802 Cranberry Orange Scone Mix

Just before Christmas, I noticed that the Beekman 1802 brand had made its way into my local Target store. The lifestyle & food brand was previously only available through specialty stores and online, so it was interesting to see  that they were offing wide variety of packaged sauces, rubs and baking mixes! The last time that I tried a Beekman 1802 mix, I think that I paid a bit more for it than I did this new Cranberry Orange Scone Mix and I was curious to see how the new product turned out, as I happen to be a big cranberry orange scone fan.

The scones were packaged in a simple box (the cake mix came in more elaborate packaging) with clearly printed directions on one side. I appreciated how easy these scones were to make, as the mix only required that I add cream and water, then mix up the dough with a spoon. The scones baked up just as described and couldn’t have been easier to make. It only took me a few minutes from opening the box to cutting the scone dough and putting them in the oven to bake. The scones were crisp on the outside and tender inside. They rose impressively in the oven and had a nice orange aroma, though the citrus flavor was a bit milder than the scent.

Overall, they weren’t bad scones. They were not particularly sweet, but did have a nice hint of that fresh cream to them. My only complaints about these scones are that I felt they could have used a few more cranberries – a problem easily rectified by adding in a tablespoon or two extra, if you’re a cranberry fan – and they seemed quite a bit smaller than pictured on the box, though the portion size was fine. They were not too sweet and perfect for finishing with jam or honey. I recommend finishing them with a generous sprinkle of sugar if you like your scones a little sweeter.

purchased at Target, must have had a bad batch certainly did not bake like these and had to search for cranberries and orange flavoring, E-mailed the company and no response. I love cranberry orange scones. Target used to have their own scone mix and that was wonderful, never had a problem. Hope you have better luck than I did.
