  • You can make delicious pies with all kinds of fruits, though some tend to get used more than others. Grapes are a fruit that is less commonly used as a pie filling, but as Sprinkle with Sale shows, they can be very delicious. These Concord Grape Pies with Thyme and Rye are individual hand pies that are stuffed with a concord grape and fresh thyme filling. The thyme adds a hint of herbaciousness that contrasts well with the rich sweetness of the grapes. You can use your favorite pie crust recipe, but this filling is paired with one made with a blend of nutty rye flour and all purpose.
  • Tutti Dolci also baked up some hand pies recently – Peach Hand Pies, to be precise. These rectangular pies are stuffed with a filling made from fresh, in-season peaches. The pastry uses both butter and cream cheese, which makes it very easy to work with, even during hot summer weather. The pies are finished with a glaze made with brown sugar and cinnamon, which adds an extra layer of flavor to the juicy peaches inside the pie.
  • Both sweet and savory are found in Honey and Birch‘s Apple Chicken Cheddar Galette. This easy to make tart would make a nice lunch or dinner option if you’re looking for something a little different to make with the leftover chicken from last night. The filling combines shredded chicken with onion, celery and diced apple. Small chunks of cheddar cheese are added just before the tart does into the oven, along with a few extra apple slices. IT is a delicious combination, made even better by the savory pepper crust that the filling is packed into.
  • There is no better way to celebrate the end of the summer than with a funky tropical cocktail. There are many good recipes to choose from over at Modern Tiki, but it doesn’t get much more fun than a batch of Banana Dolphin Punch. This is a pineapple-based cocktail that is built around one of the most over-the-top tiki garnishes around: the banana dolphin. It is sure to put a smile on the face of everyone who sees it – and the cocktail that comes with it is balanced, fruity and very satisfying. The dolphin garnish can be used on smoothies, as well, if you want to dress up the presentation of your summer drinks while skipping the alcohol.
