Baking Bites for Craftsy: Bananas Foster

Bananas foster is one of my favorite retro desserts because it is easy to make, fun to make and tastes delicious. The recipe dates back to 1950s New Orleans, which was a shipping hub for bananas at the time. A clever chef combined fresh bananas with brown sugar, butter and booze, then served the mixture over a scoop of ice cream. Oh – and he also flambeed the liquor used in the recipe to ensure that the caramelized dessert got a dramatic presentation. I’m sharing my recipe for Bananas Foster over on the Craftsy Blog (it’s free!), so you can play around with this delicious combination at home.

If you’re not in the mood for sundaes, you can chill the sauce and put it in the blender with a few scoops of ice cream to make amazing milkshakes, as well.

Thanks for posting this recipe. I remember that I used to eat bananas foster at the local soda shop with my family back in the day. It’s been a long time since I had one, so it would be nice to make my own and relive my memories of sitting down with my family to share an old fashioned banana’s foster. I’m glad that you also pointed out to use the ingredients to make a milkshake, because that would be delicious. I can’t wait to get all of the ingredients that I need so that I can try making both bananas foster and a bananas foster shake at home.
