Little Sweets and Bakes

While cupcakes aren’t quite as hot as they were a few years ago, we all still love small, bite sized desserts. They’re cute to look at, fun to make and very easy to serve. Where cupcakes once completely dominated the small dessert market, bakers are experimenting with all kinds of different mini desserts these days, including cake pops, macarons and whoopie pies – and you’ll find all of these, along with some cupcakes, of course, in Little Sweets and Bakes.
The book opens with an introduction to the basic types of mini desserts in the book, providing basic recipes for cake, macarons, cookies and cake pops, all with instructions so that you can make the most of your mini desserts. There are more recipes throughout the book, but these are explained in great detail and illustrated with step-by-step photos that make the process of making them easy. The rest of the recipes are clearly written and easy to follow along with, and most have short ingredient lists that make the recipes seem especially approachable. The only slightly odd thing about the book is that the recipes are organized into chapters based on the author’s favorite recipes, edible gifts and special occasion desserts – and they aren’t divided up by type or flavor, as you might usually find in a cookbook. This means that you might have to flip around a bit more to find what you want, but it also means that you’re likely to discover new recipes and flavor combinations that you might not have initially set out to find!
The book has a tremendously fun feel to it as you read through it. They layout is easy to read and there are lots of beautiful pictures of all of the recipes. Each and every one of the cute and colorful desserts is eye-catching, so it’s almost as fun just to look at them as it is to make something and eat it.
