Glazed, Filled, Sugared & Dipped: Easy Doughnut Recipes to Fry or Bake at Home

donutbookWhen you’re in the mood for a donut, whether it is for breakfast or a snack, you’re probably going to head out to the nearest donut – or doughnut – shop and pick one up. Donuts are not difficult to make, but they aren’t made at home quite as often as other sweet treats. As baked donuts are becoming increasingly popular, making donuts at home is becoming a little more common and people are even starting to venture into deep frying donuts at home, which isn’t as difficult as you might expect and even more delicious. Glazed, Filled, Sugared & Dipped: Easy Doughnut Recipes to Fry or Bake at Home is all about homemade donuts, whether baked or fried, and is designed to turn everyone into a homemade donut convert.

The cookbook starts out with basic donut tools and techniques. Donuts are simple to make, but that also means that you should be precise when you’re making a batch so that they turn out perfectly every time. After the introduction, you move in to a short chapter with a few basic donut recipes. This chapter, although brief, gives you a good foundation for making donuts because every donut recipe is based on a basic cake or basic yeast dough. The recipes here are very clearly written and will turn out a great donut every time. They also describe how to add different flavors to your dough so that you can easily use these as foundation recipes for your own donut creations. Many of the other recipes in the book are based on these foundation recipes, although you’ll still find plenty other donut recipes (not just variations) as you read through the chapters on breakfast and dessert donuts. Recipes for different fillings, frostings and glazes will give you plenty of options on the various ways you can flavor your donuts, too. Don’t feel like you have to stick with the flavor combinations in the book. Mixing and matching different donut elements is what makes making homemade donuts more fun than going to the donut shop.

There are a few special tools that you might want to pick up before you start working with this cookbook. A donut cutter will streamline the process of cutting out your donuts, even though you can create a makeshift donut cutter with cookie or biscuit cutters that you might already have on hand.

  • This sounds likes a great book! Do all the recipes have an option to bake or are there select recipes for baking? Is it mostly either fried or baked donut recipes? Thanks!

Asiya – They’re definitely mostly fried recipes, but I know that all of the recipes can easily adapt to baking because they doughs are easy to work with. And if you happen to have a baked donut recipe that you already like, you’ll find some great glazes and fillings in here to add a lot of extra flavor.
